Peace and relaxation near Rome.

At Mad Hatter's House you'll find chickens in the paddock, a dog in the house and the cat sleeping on the kitchen chair! We are country and people lovers, we welcome all without distinction! You'll find a relaxing, family atmosphere where peace and tranquillity reign. You are woken by the morning call of birds in the garden (despite being so close to Rome it's only 45 minutes by car to the eternal city) and a delicious homemade breakfast with fresh eggs and homemade bread and jams. We want you to feel like you are coming home! Superb dinners under the mulberry tree, walks to the oldest sanctuary in Italy or trips to Tivoli or other ancient hill top towns or just simply enjoy and relax in the garden! Peace and tranquillity is our main feature.The house is a typical Lazian country house built in solid stone around the 1970's. We became owners four years ago and our aim is to create a beautiful atmosphere without damaging the surrounding natural woods and land that have become our responsability. We do most of the restoration ourselves and so work is in progress but slow. The inside of the house has been completely renovated and restored but we are still working in the garden and the outside of the house so please be patient, things are not perfect yet! In the winter months there is central heating and a wood burning stove in the kitchen and during the summer months the house remains wonderfully cool due to the thick stone walls. The B&B bedrooms are on the ground floor next to the kitchen and the dining room. The blue room has an ensuite bathroom and handicap facilities. This was important to us as we have a friend who has continualy found it difficult to find handicap facilities in remote out of the way places ! The green room has a private bathroom upstairs. The house and bedrooms are decorated with Lismay's own water colour and oil paintings which she does in her spare time. The whole of the ground floor is available to guests, this includes the kitchen,dining room and bedrooms. Of course the garden is for guests use always, there are no restrictions. We do have a lively collie called Shaun and a cat, but they both adore people and are very friendly. I (Lismay)love being a host! Before Mad Hatter's House I had a B&B near the sea and I truly enjoy meeting new people and exchanging adventures with my guests. I am in or around the house most of the day working on various projects in the garden or woods or planting and reaping in the vegetable garden. I am a trained professional chef and a Bach Flower Registered practitioner.Claudio is a busy local doctor,an osteopath and a phsycotherapist. In his spare time he loves to fix and mend things around the house and there is always some new project going on. However he is never too busy to stop for a chat or give you advice on your days adventure. We both love cooking and entertaining,knocking up a pizza in the pizza oven or enjoying a barbeque in the garden. We will totally respect your privacy but we are also available to cater for your needs. We want you to feel like you're at home! The unique thing about this area is that it is totaly off the beaten tourist track! You will find authentic friendly Italians who say "Buongiorno" to you and give you a friendly smile. Best to come by car so you can get to all those fascinating hill top villages. However we are 15 minutes from Tivoli train station, the train takes half an hour to get into the centre of Rome. We welcome those with a handicap and in wheelchairs. However we do live in the country so the ground can become muddy after rain and access to the garden might be a bit difficult, but we aim to make your stay as comfortable as is possible.
