The house is clean and comfortable and a short distance from Barga with its restaurants, banks, supermarkets, theatre and public open air swimming pool. It is the perfect spot to explore other areas of Tuscany such as Florence, Lucca, Viareggio, Siena, Pietrasanta and Pisa. It is also perfect for walking and bird watching. As owners we live nearby and are on hand if you need us to advise on transport, restaurants or if you need any local information. Sommocolonia is a peaceful, romantic and ancient village which leaves you feeling relaxed and energised. It is perfect to escape the hustle, bustle and that fast pace of every day life but close enough to places such as Lucca, Florence, Pisa, Viareggio and Forte dei Marmi to make it an excellent base to travel from. If you are looking for a romantic break Sommocolonia is ideal, especially in the autumn with cosy, romantic log fires and a glass of wine. The area is great for hiking and walking. You can stroll and collect chestnuts to roast on the fire and do a spot of bird watching. Nearby Barga (3.5 km) has banks, supermarket, restaurants and a great out door swimming pool that is open during the summer months. You will need to hire a car if you want to get around on your own from your Sommocolonia base. There is a bus down to Barga early in the morning and back up again in the afternoon. Barga has buses to the train station or to further a field to towns such as Lucca or Castelnuovo di Garfagnana. There is free wifi internet access for the whole property.
