The local town of Kamnik has an excellent choice of restaurants, café bars and shops. This atmospheric little town, with its baroque architecture, narrow streets full of character , castles and churches is popular choice for visitors, and the tourist information centre is located in the centre of town along with numerous tempting pavement cafes and bars to enjoy coffee, ice cream or leisurely lunch. Ljubljana is the vibrant capital of Slovenia (only 35 minutes from the chalet) and boasts fantastic architecture, including castles and palaces, theatres and art galleries, museums and an opera house. The cafe culture is well established here, visitors can enjoy soaking up the atmosphere and doing a little people watching, while enjoying drinks at one of the many riverside cafe bars. We would view a car as being essential, however there is a train station and bus depot in Kamnik, which is a 10 minute drive away. Slovenia is situated on the sunny south side of the Alps and is bordered by Italy to the West, Austria to the North, Croatia and Hungary are also neighbours to the South and East. The climate is alpine/Mediterranean, making the country an ideal location for holidays all year round. English is widely spoken, being taught as a second language throughout the schooling system.
