It was just a disused outbuilding, and once upon a time a bakers - we have lovingly restored this and created a cosy one bedroom home from home, respecting the story of the building, using local materials like timber and stone. Like our other Where Stags Roar properties, it has a wood burning stove, and high quality stylish furnishings. The Bakehouse at Caman House (sleeps 2) dates from 1900 and is a beautiful old stone building. When we bought what is now Caman House this building was just a disused store, but once upon a time it was the village bakery. We have lovingly restored The Bakehouse and created a cosy one bedroom home from home. We’ve respected the story of the building, using local materials like wood and stone. Like our other WSR properties, it has a wood burning stove, and high quality furnishings. In the bedroom (16 sq m) there is a double bed and single sofa bed for flexible sleeping arrangements for a maximum of 2 guests. Upon entering The Bakehouse, the open plan living room/kitchen-diner is bright and airy. It has an inviting wood burner, feature stone hearth and high-standard fixtures and fittings. There's a large wall mounted TV with freesat, dvd player and wifi. The kitchen area has a dishwasher, washing machine, full oven, microwave, double hob, fridge-freezer, and sink with drainer. There is electric heating throughout (plus the woodburning stove). The large bathroom has a shower, wash hand basin and WC. The spacious double bedroom, which has practical details like individual flexible bedside reading lights and USB sockets, also has a comfortable sofa bed for flexible sleeping arrangements - ie 1 double bed and 1 single sofa bed (max 2 guests) so that it suits both couples or those who need two separate beds. Patio doors open onto a small decked area outside with gate (so its enclosed and dog friendly). 1 well behaved dog welcome and free - please let us know when you book. Portable bluetooth speakers. Small but perfectly formed The Bakehouse is beautifully intimate and carefully designed with all of the amenities of a larger dwelling. (Total space 42 sq m). This property is detached and stands in the grounds of Caman House, so they can be booked together to accommodate six people. The garden area is shared with the two other apartments that make up Caman House - please see photos for further information. The small deck is private just for you and enclosed with some privacy screening. We live downstairs in Caman House, so are nearby if you need anything, but we won't impose upon your stay and your place has its own entrance and is detached. There is a small private enclosed deck, just enough space for a little table and 2 chairs. Caman House is right in the centre of Newtonmore and just two minutes walk from great pubs who serve bar meals and local beers, some of which have summer 'beer garden' outdoor areas, plus three cafes just across the road who serve meals all day, an Indian takeaway, and a couple of restaurants – a surprising amount of choice for a wee village right on the doorstep if you don't want to cook! The village also has a well stocked supermarket, post office, tweed clothing & gift shop, mens barbers, petrol station. Free wifi. Wood and coal included, and all linen & towels included. There is roadside parking on the street just by the property in a recessed parking bay. Newtonmore is situated in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park, and is a walking and birdwatching paradise. There are many hiking and cycling trails on the doorstep of The Bakehouse, including The Wildcat Trail, as well as world-class fishing along nearby River Spey, and skiing in winter. There are also world renowned whisky distilleries along the river. Nearby is Aviemore and Inverness, both with much to see and do for visitors. However, Newtonmore itself is very well-catered for with pubs, restaurants and shops. Shop and restaurant 500 yards, pub 300 yards. In the village is The Highland Folk Park, which was a township location in the popular Outlander TV series, Ardverikie House of Monarch of the Glen fame is nearby, plus Landmark Visitor Centre, The Highland Wildlife Park, Cairngorm Mountain, Wolftrax mountain bike centre. So much to see and do. Newtonmore is on the London Kings Cross to Inverness caldeonian Sleeper line. Regular trains to Inverness, Perth, York, London. Near the A9. Near to the SnowRoads route. Sustrans cycle route and popular for munroists with 3 just behind the village and others close by. Parking is at the front of Caman House in the recessed parking bay or on the Main Street. This is very closeby for unloading etc. (No parking at the rear please). 1 well behaved dog only welcome and free - please let us know if you plan to bring a pet. The dog must not be left alone in the property. Please do not allow your dog up on the beds or sofa/soft furnishings - thank you Please note that our check-in time is 4pm (or anytime after as there is a self-check-in key box) and CHECK OUT by 10am at the latest - thank you for your understanding and for not arriving at the property before 4pm. Most of our changeovers are 'same-day' but we'll message you if we are able to be ready for you any earlier - there are local cafes and things to sight-see if you do arrive in the area ahead of these timings. We hope you understand why we need to adhere to strict check-out timings - we need this time for cleaning and we are committed to making your stay as safe and pleasant as possible.
