Welcome home! I’m Robyn. I bought this craftsman-style bungalow and gave it a 100% renovation in 2018 to become our dream home. It’s on a dead end street, backyard opens up to 300 acres of preserved woodland with ample trails, and our house functions as home, office, music studio, apothecary, and edible landscape experiment station. My partner is a professional multi-instrumentalist, teaching and producing music out of our studio. I’m an ecological designer, forager, herbalist, and vocalist! Our home is just 20 minutes outside Philadelphia and in a busy suburban area with access to whatever you need, but it feels like a totally different world than its surroundings once you arrive. We live towards the end of a dead end street, at the top of a hill in an otherwise very flat area, with 300+ acres of preserved pine-oak forest full of walking trails directly accessible from the backyard. I’m a self-employed ecological designer, gardener, orchardist, herbalist, musician, educator, and regenerative culture activist, so the yard and house function as my laboratory, office, apothecary, studio, and hearth for community-building. I finished renovating the entire house in summer 2018 and think you’ll love the way it feels. While you’re here, the finished attic will be the space that’s totally yours, and you’re free to use the living/dining room, kitchen, and bathroom on the first floor. If you have multiple people in your party, there’s also an additional bedroom on the first floor that we can use for sleeping. The bathroom has a large corner tub that’s great for baths if you need to soak after a long trip (towels provided). If you’re a musician, with permission, you can also spend time practicing in our basement rehearsal room. Outside, there’s a terraced garden in front growing a whole mess of medicinal herbs and plants to attract beneficial insects, and the front and backyard have the beginnings of a small home-scale orchard full of fruit trees and berry bushes. We also have a coop with 13 chickens whose eggs we share collectively with some of our neighbors. There is a side door closer to the attic entrance on the right side of the house, though most people enter through the door on the front porch. The porch, living room/dining room, kitchen, and bathroom are all shared by my partner and I, and they are available for use in addition to the attic, which will be your private quarters throughout the duration of your stay. When not hosting guests, the attic functions as my office, so there is a desk up there for you to work on. The backyard is also available to be in, with a fire pit if you desire, as well. I work from home and I'm quite busy, though there is ample room to share space while you're here or make myself relatively scarce. I have no problem sharing space quietly, co-working, socializing, or discussing your needs for space or assistance while here. If you'd like me to give you suggestions about local restaurants, outdoor spaces, or fun things to do in the area, I'm more than happy to do so. Our street is quiet, low-traffic because it's a dead end, and surrounded by woods. Many of the bungalows around were built in the 20s as summer homes for people living in Philadelphia who wanted to spend their vacations next to Clementon Lake, which is just at the bottom of the hill from our house. Unfortunately, people no longer swim in Clementon Lake, though the area is now best known for it's small amusement park and water park that overlook the lake, Clementon Park and Splash World. The neighborhood is very safe, though it's still customary for people to lock their cars and doors at night. There is a bus stop at the end of the street that will take you to our local train station in Lindenwold, NJ where you can take (1) the PATCO line west to other South Jersey towns or Center City Philadelphia or (2) the NJ Transit Train east all the way to Atlantic City. Uber and Lyft are probably the easiest ways to get anywhere closer if you don't want to drive yourself. Parking is best across the street and preferably not directly in front of our neighbor's house (where they park). If you require space directly in front of our house, that's not a problem and can be easily dealt with, though our two cars are usually out front. If you are here on a Tuesday, my partner usually has band practice in the basement throughout the day (usually 2pm-6pm or so). The band is great, but heavy. In the attic, you can barely hear the music at all except for some drum/bass undertones.
