Aithernie Cabin - in beautiful Fife countryside
Our cosy cabin sits in a small orchard on our property which is semi-rural and set on the edge of farmland. We are situated at the entry to the beautiful East Neuk of Fife which includes the pretty harbour towns of Anstruther and Crail and is renowned for its many types of crafts. We run a Stitching Studio and Gallery on our premises. St Andrews is only 14 miles away, Dundee 24 miles and Edinburgh 37 miles. There is a main line station at Kirkcaldy which is 9 miles away. The cabin is situated approx 50 metres from the main house and is very private. It has a veranda which gets the evening sun and a log burner for those cooler evenings. We have a small area of woodland behind the cabin. Bedroom 1 has a double bed, bedroom 2 has a double bed with a single upper bunk and there is a comfortable sofa bed in the main living area which can be screened off for privacy. There is a communal dressing area with hanging space and shelving and a place to store luggage. We can provide a cot and high chair but please make sure you let us know this is required at the time of booking. Outside is an area of grassed lawn and a beautiful private patio area solely for the use of guests along with barbecue for outside eating. Off road parking on private drive off farm road. Space for up to 3 cars. Gravel path to cabin. No stairs but all doorways have a 4 inch sill due to style of construction. The whole property is set in 1 acre of garden and the area in the orchard around the cabin is for sole use of guests unless being mowed. Patio area adjacent to the cabin is usable but is being upgraded over the winter and a BBQ area added. There are also 2.75 acres of woodland and paddock to enjoy as well as extensive access to local walkways and bridleways. We run a stitching Studio and Gallery from our premises so there is always someone available. Feel free to come and browse during your stay. We know accidents happen, so please let us know immediately so that we can rectify. If we find out after you have left you may be liable for replacement, cleaning or repair. Neuk' is the old Scots word for corner, and the East Neuk is the name given to the area of land that runs around the Eastern peninsula of Fife. The delightful East Neuk villages, nestling amongst the natural harbours of the coastline, are testimony to the heritage of sea-fishing that still lives on in the Kingdom of Fife. We are situated on the edge of farmland and there is a beautiful Farm Shop within walking distance, this is open Monday to Saturday and has a lovely tea room that also serves hot meals. It also has a great butcher. There are pubs and restaurants in all surrounding villages as well as local food delivery services. St Andrews is not far away and of course it has everything for the golfer along with the historic university and buildings, the St Andrews Aquarium and a large number of great restaurants. Our nearest mainline stations are Markinch (6m) and Kirkcaldy (9m). Buses to Leven are regular. You can alight at Letham Glen for a walk through this park to our location. For walking or cycling enthusiasts, the Fife Coastal Path runs from the Forth Estuary in the south, to the Tay Estuary in the north and stretches for 117 miles. It offers a rich and varied landscape and is the best way to explore the Kingdom of Fife. The 117 mile route will take you through towns, villages, beaches and countryside, showing you the best that this area has to offer. Local amenities include Sainsburys, Lidl, Aldi and Spar as well as other 7/11 stores. Many local take aways also deliver and are on Just Eat.
