Boorabee Creek Cottage

Boorabee Cottage is a very relaxed, tranquil, peaceful space for those looking to get away from their day to day busy lives and enjoy all that nature has to offer, with accessibility to the nearby town of Kyogle & the Border Ranges National Park. If it’s a true escape you’re looking for, free from the stress that often comes with internet & mobile phone access, then this will be your sanctuary! Boorabee means Koala in the local Gullibul & Githabul language. Boorabee Park is a picturesque valley located at the foothills of Boorabee State forest, an easy 10 minute drive out of Kyogle in the Norther Rivers of New South Wales. It is home to a myriad of local wildlife, including wallabies, echidnas, platypus, koalas, possums, sugar gliders and over 150 species of birds. The accommodation is a self contained 3 bedroom, 1 bathroom cottage, with a full kitchen (no dishwasher), with a stove, oven, microwave, BBQ, fireplace & laundry. There is an indoor & an outdoor dining setting & an outdoor lounge on the front deck for relaxing. Guests need to bring their own food and it's a good idea to buy groceries before you arrive. Linen & bath towels etc are provided for guests. The cottage runs on 240v solar power entirely off-grid. There is a back-up generator and a LPG gas instantaneous hot water system. Filtered rainwater is fed to the cottage. Across the road is also part of the property where the beautiful natural swimming hole is, for guests to enjoy. Feel free to roam the property taking in beautiful peaceful walks or do nothing at all. Please note: There is no internet access on the property & at the house there is only very limited optus signal ie 1 bar. There is clear signal if you walk up the back of the property or drive down Boorabee Creek road it is better. Don’t be fooled by appearances – beyond the peaceful façade, there’s always something happening in Kyogle and its surrounding villages, including the popular village of Nimbin & the Channon (which has fabulous markets)! One of the main attractions for the region is the stunning natural scenery. There are a number of World Heritage-listed national parks, including rainforests, waterfalls, bush walks and spectacular views as far as the eyes can see. Border Ranges National Park encompasses over 30,000 hectares along the NSW/QLD border and is easily accessible from town. Go camping at Sheepstation Creek, see the views at Pinnacle Lookout, or enjoy a bush walk or picnic at one of the many picnic areas. Toonumbar Dam is popular for camping, fishing and water sports. Kyogle is just a short drive from other National Parks at Mount Warning/Wollumbin, Tooloom, Mebbin, Koreelah and Richmond Range – all of which highlight what a naturally beautiful part of the world we live in. You’ll find waterfalls, swimming holes, bush walks for all abilities and of course an amazing variety of native flora and fauna. If you’d rather check out the scenery by car, there are a number of scenic drives in the region. For those that prefer their time outside with a bit more adventure, the Kyogle Mountain Bike Trails in Boorabee State Forest on the fringe of town offer a family-friendly network of trails to enjoy by foot or bike – and entry is totally free and open to the public. There are also a number of well-maintained parks and playgrounds across the shire, where you can enjoy a barbecue or let the kids burn off some energy. Kyogle Council supports a number of excellent resources available to the public, including the pool facilities in Kyogle, Woodenbong and Bonalbo; the Kyogle Library, with a variety of activities for all ages; and the Roxy Gallery, featuring art from talented local artists. If you need to escape the elements, you can check out a movie at Kyogle Cinema or go bowling at the bowling alley connected to the Commercial Hotel (also known as the Top Pub) – they’ve even opened a new indoor play area for the kids. There are also a number of boutique shops – from clothing to home-wares. If markets are more your speed, the weekly Farmers Markets on a Saturday morning offer local produce and crafts, often with musicians busking for a vibrant atmosphere. The monthly Kyogle Bazaar features local artisans and craftspeople, as well as some second-hand stalls – you never know what you’ll find! Or head to Woodenbong for the quarterly ‘Yowie Country’ market for great country atmosphere. And for regular activities, there’s no shortage of sporting clubs, volunteer organizations and community groups to join.
