Welcome to Sparrow’s Song Cottage! The perfect rustic retreat from modern life. We call it our very own private “Sunrise point”, because of the daily uninterrupted-180 degree view of the sunrise behind the mighty Churdhar peak. Get back to nature with muddy walks, fresh air and panoramic mountain views. 25 km ahead of Shimla and 6 km ahead of Kufri, located in Village Reog - Fagu, this 1980-built traditional Pahari wooden house has been modestly restored as well as updated with modern tastes. The cottage is located far above a quiet country lane, so there are no noisy main roads or constant traffic and pollution to disturb your peace and quiet. Except for the rare chainsaw whirring in the distance or the occasional truck heaving its way up NH-5, which is a 2km drive from the house. The cottage is a 300 metre uphill trek from the parking spot so don’t forget your walking shoes. Please be prepared to carry in your belongings (we highly recommend backpacks), but if you would need help, kindly inform us in advance so we could request someone from the village to help you. Please note, this service is extra and depends entirely on the availability of our local porter. Like a typical rural setting, it’s a back-to-basics, no-frills experience. A rustic mud room that sleeps 1-3 people. The room has 2 beds, a queen bed suitable for a snuggly couple, and a single bed for a lone ranger. The floors and walls are made with mud & wood, making them slightly uneven, while the roof is original wood, making it slightly loud when people walk overhead. Since the hosts’ bedroom is right above the guest bedroom, expect to be notified at every footstep. Our guests aren’t renting a random guest room, but are immersing themselves into the whole slow-living experience and a front-row seat into the lifestyle of 2 townies doing life in the mountains. The room is very comfortable and cosy, but it isn’t luxury. Perfect for those looking to just relax, slow down and unwind. Guests have their own bathroom, which is not attached to the room but adjoins the same patio. While breakfast is complimentary, other meals are EXTRA and need to be booked before arrival. Meals are simple home cooked food and don’t forget to mention your veg/non vegetarian preference. The cottage does NOT currently have WIFI but there is decent reception and 4G. Please be aware of this before you book to avoid disappointment. Our village is full of trails leading through orchards, fields and woods. You're welcome to explore responsibly. If you should go for a picnic in the surrounding areas make sure you bring the trash back to the cottage with you. Needless to say that any sort of loud noise (music), honking etc that may disturb the locals will not be appreciated. Parking is on the main road. Though you wouldn't need to worry about safety, we would recommend our space for those travellers who are comfortable making the trek upto the house. We would be available in and around the property at most times, and will be just a call away for any assistance. Expect to share the property with our 3 dogs, who are very human-friendly but aggressive towards other animals. Therefore, the intermittent barking that might mildly disrupt the otherwise deafening silence. Guests must be dog-lovers or at least tolerate the presence of dogs during the day, though we would strongly suggest to keep your doors closed. The nearest market is in Fagu which is 5 kilometre away by road or a 30 minute hike away, and has few provision stores stocking the usual daily needs items. Public buses ply from Fagu market frequently.
