Mountain Views of Accra/Long lets only

The flat is less than 20 minutes drive ( appox) to Accra and a good way to keep far from crowds and corona. Mountaintop location means also very few mosquitoes. Fresh air /much cooler climate than central Accra.. come and self isolate for health reason at our awe inspiring getaway....this place is absolutely beautiful..' ,'what an outstanding stay with such a serene view' '... we felt welcomed and cared for at all times'.. These are some of the descriptions of the place left by happy guests..This place is for longer bookings only of 2 weeks or more up to one year plus. Papaye lodge is a 'back to nature' type place. The most stunning feature is our wide open terraces where you can sit eating and drinking al fresco while admiring the incredible views of Accra below. At night it's almost mosquito free so for heath reasons a big plus. We do have hot water, new IKEA style fully fitted kitchen with microwave etc..but occasionally as in most of Africa things can go wrong ..for example if there is an electricity outage we do have solar lamps .( usually for a a few hours) .but hey..isn't living in other countries about experiencing a new way of living... however if you feel you cannot sometimes live in a different type way... and expect 1st world conditions 24/7.. .PLEASE DO NOT COME TO OUR HOUSE.. however if you are used to Africa and feel you can just occasionally adapt to some of the problems we experience here you are welcome. A stay at Papaye Lodge will allow you to experience nature, , peace and tranquility BUT be approximately 25 minutes drive from bustling central Accra.(Accra Mall) or just approx 10 minutes drive from Adenta and Madina in Accra. The lodge is a 'Back to Nature' type of place . There are solar lamps (not generators) for when there are power cuts and due to the high altitude of the property it is cool especially at night so air-con is not necessary. We really try to preserve water at our lodge and our proud of our green credentials. Papaye Lodge .. its a place where beauty and simplicity reign ... not how fast the shower runs.. Internet is on a pay as you go and internet modems can be loaded up for just a few dollars. Cleaning is not included but you can negotiate him or his wife to clean your flat and wash and dry your clothes for a small fee. Wake up early morning to birdsong and lush mountains as you peep through your curtains. After breakfast on the terrace watching the sun rise over the hills descend down the steep hills to bustling, hot and dusty Accra. By evening return to the cool tranquility of Papaye lodge. You will literally feel the air freshen and cool as you once again ascend the steep slopes while watching the twinkling lights of Accra below. One advantage of this cool climate is there are very few mosquitoes at Safari Lodge. The large house is divided into two apartments . Each apartment has two bedrooms an adjoining bathroom, (kitchen, dining area and living room. Both apartments have large terraces where you can dine al fresco or just sit sipping your favourite drink watching the sun rise over the mountains. Both apartments are completely self contained within their own gardens. The gardens are full of fruit trees, papaya, tangerine, lemon, lime, guava and banana and advocate. Bed Linen provided as is all cooking equipment. Papaye Lodge is a place of natural simplicity. We do have solar lamps and due to its high altitude the weather at Papaye Lodge can be quite cool, especially at night so that air-conditioners are not really necessary. There is a security man/gardener/housekeeper who lives on the premises with his wife and family. He will welcome you to the lodge and give you the key and show you around. If you have any questions he will always be there to help but he will not intrude and you will be able to live in your self-contained apartment with garden without having to interact with anyone. If you require a maid or cleaning service this can be negotiated directly with the housekeeper and his wife but payment must be made for this. The neighbourhood around Safari Lodge is spectacular. It has an african village environment, but is also part of Accra, being in the northern suburbs. The surrounding mountains are full of trails which can unexpectedly end up in a secluded village which seems stuck in time. Nearby is a mountian-bike hire company where you can take guided tours of the surrounding countryside on mountain bikes or just hiking. Aburi Botanical Gardens is just minutes away. Here you can find species of trees from all over the world. The immediate area has many great restaurants. Nearest is Aruba Guesthouse which has incredible dishes, Hillburi hotel and Little Acre. All restaurants are set in wonderful ground with that spectacular view over the mountains and Accra which you can only find in this area which is fast becoming known as the 'Beverley Hills of Accra'. Bob Marley's wife Rita Marley is a near neighbour and the Bob Marley Foundation carries out a lot of social projects in this area. Both Little Acre Hotel and Hillburi hotel ( both are just a few minutes walk from the lodge, have amazing swimming pools which you can use. It is very easy to get to and from central Accra from Safari Lodge. Taxis and trotros stop outside the lodge and its a straight road all the way to Accra Mall and Central Accra. Vehicles will also drop you off directly outside our house on the way back too. Papaye Lodge is great if you would like to explore the local areas and visit local Ghanaian villages. A guide will take you around pointing out local flora and fauna and you can go either on foot or mountain bike. Longer hikes and rides over several days can also be arranged. You can also take hikes to a lovely local waterfall. There are often local festivals around the area.
