Garden studio apartment Cowichan Bay
Our home overlooks Cowichan Bay. The ground floor studio (bachelor) has a keyed self-entry to the back deck. It is self-contained with a queen and one double sofa bed, gas fireplace, ensuite bathroom/shower, WiFi, TV, and mini-kitchen. Beautiful and quiet, and within walking distance to the village of Cowichan Bay. We welcome you to come and stay with us in our home overlooking Cowichan Bay, about 45 minutes north of Victoria and 50 minutes south of Nanaimo, on the east side of Vancouver Island. We are out of the city and just above a small, interesting village. This house is a great place to base yourselves if you want to explore Vancouver Island for a few weeks. Our home features terrific views over the bay, facing Mount Tzouhalem on the other side. The studio apartment is private and quiet, facing the back garden. The village is just below us but out of sight, so you can easily go for a quick walk to restaurants, galleries, the pub, and various other tourist attractions. We are happy to have international visitors in our home as we are travelers ourselves. Nous parlons un peu de Francais, y un poco d'espanol. The studio apartment has a queen bed , and a pull-out double Ikea bed which is quite comfortable. Three guests max. You'll wake up to a garden view and birds chirping, and often will see mama doe and her fawns grazing on blackberries at the foot of the yard. It also has a fireplace, mini-kitchen thoroughly supplied with: microwave, 1-burner induction cooker (no range), toaster oven, electric griddle, electric frying pan, toaster, coffee-maker, electric kettle, dishes, and small fridge. Tea & coffee are available. Grocery store is 6 min. away at the highway turn-off. There is an ensuite bathroom with shower. This level enters out to the very large and welcoming back deck, facing Cowichan Bay. Of note, at the front of the property there is a steep drop-off with a split-rail fence in front. Children need to be very well supervised at all times. We are performing anti-viral cleaning between guests, so appreciate prompt check-outs and later arrivals to really air out the studio. There is plenty of parking out front.Access is down the sides of the house and across the back deck on packed gravel paths. While you are here you can enjoy hiking on Mt. Tzouhalem, Cobble Hill mountain, or the lovely provincial park at Bright Angel, just across the highway. Shawnigan Lake is just 15 minutes away for a dip in clear lake water. Our own Cowichan Bay is just below us, and has the Wooden Boat museum, the Nature Centre, and beach access. We have two bicycles to share, just ask. If you enjoy the finer things of life, we are just above great food at the Masthead restaurant, Rock Cod Cafe, Bay Pub, and Oceanfront hotel. The village below is just a 5 min walk, and boasts terrific homemade bread, cheese, ice cream, as well as hairdressers, coffee shops, gifts, kayak rentals and whale watching. There are three restaurants down there, a small grocery store and liquor outlet. Duncan Town is just 10 minutes north of here, and it's a cute town to explore, especially on Saturday mornings when the Farmer's Market is on. We are happy hosts, willing to share information, maps, local knowledge and smiles. We can speak high-school French and are learning Spanish :) The studio is quite private with its own keyed entry at the back of the house. Access is down the side of the house. There are two steps. There is a slope and the ground can be a little uneven, so access by wheelchair could be challenging, basically not advised. At night it's well-lit with rope lights plus motion-activated lights. You're welcome to enjoy the yard. The front edge has a drop-off about 50' from the house, so children must be supervised at all times. Just let us know if there's anything you need. We are happy for you to come and go as you wish. Cowichan Bay is a cool little village. We have our own Estuary Nature Centre and the Wooden Boat Museum. Whale watching, kayak rentals, lots of eateries from the beautiful Masthead to little coffee shops and seafood restaurants, galleries, souvenirs, kids things, ice cream shop - something for everyone. You can take a little boat across to Genoa Bay for a change of scene, or just wander around the docks, or go to the pub. Our place is above a small village with bus service only once an hour. A car is most helpful to give you mobility, however, the restaurants and village are just 5 minutes walk below our place. Bicyclists and walkers find their way to our place - all welcome! If you arrive at the Duncan bus station we could pick you up. There is another suite next door with a permanent tenant, and our home is above. We are all quiet after 10 or so.
