Enjoy island life in this spacious family home. Set amongst towering redwood trees with the tide coming and going at your doorstep. Once here, you can't help but begin to relax. The house has a welcoming warm, arty vibe with a nautical touch. Whether you enjoy bird watching or not, you can't help but enjoy the weka, tui, fantail, kereru, ruru, shags, herons, oyster catchers.....and kiwi at night! You will hear them calling and if patient enough you may even get to see one. The house is a 10 minute walk along the shoreline from our all-tide Starboard Wharf, where the ferry or water taxi will drop you off. Being NW facing it is sunny and sheltered from the wind. Situated up Starboard Arm which is a tidal estuary. I will meet you on arrival, take you to the house, show you around, can answer any questions then leave. Information will be available on things to do on and around the island. I'm available by phone throughout your stay. We have a friendly neighbourhood with people who will make you feel welcome. There are quite a number of holiday houses and semi permanent homes nearby. You will have access to our shared all tide Starboard Wharf for arrivals and departures by boat. Also for swimming and fishing. There is a shared jetty on the foreshore of our property where you can enjoy a lot of water activities at high tide. Driving north from Auckland Central will take you about one hour to Sandspit. Park your car at the Sandspit carpark next to the wharf. From there you will catch a water taxi or ferry to the island getting off at Starboard wharf in North Cove. Book tickets with Kawau Cruises at least the day before. To get around the island once here there are walking tracks on private land, kayaking, standup paddle boarding and a rowing dinghy. Or book a bay hop with the ferry company. Fish from the wharf at all tides, or jetty when the tide is in. Lines and bait are provided. Please bring your own bed linen, bath linen and beach towels. We have to conserve water as we have rainwater tanks. There are plenty of tea towels, hand towels and dish cloths available.
