Paddyfield Hideaway is 3/4 hour from Kandy, and 20 mins from Perhidiniya Botanical Gardens. We are are private 'homestay', for those seeking tranquillity. Room looks out onto beautiful garden, and is surrounded by a tea plantation and paddy fields. Close to ancient temples, and jungle villages, and you are unlikely to see any other tourists! There are amazing walks through the jungle and you can see a village totally dedicated to drum making. A rare experience untouched by modern life... The first impression of Paddyfield Hideaway makes on a visitor is not paddy fields but a lovely house set in a garden of beautiful flowers and a very green lawn! Enter the house and go down the stairs, then you see the reason for the name...a green paddy field attended by a farmer at work surrounded by a flock of Egrets. Idyllic surroundings indeed... Guests have a choice of seasonal fresh fruit and vegetables from our own garden. We also provide spring water from our own well. We have our own electricity generator for use in case of a power outage. Guests can have free run of the house, and Naomi will cook you delicious traditional Sri Lankan curries on request. Desmond and Naomi will look after you during your stay. They both speak very good English, and will go out of their way to make your stay memorable. You can enjoy walking, cycling or going by tuktuk through jungle villages, to three very ancient Buddhist Temples - Embekke, Lankatilleke, and Gadaladeniya- that hold brilliant annual Peraheras, a traditional Buddhist spectacle well worth seeing from close up, in the month of September. We are also in walking distance to Rockwell meditation centre. Desmond can arrange tuktuks to pick you up! He can also pick you up from Kandy station, or arrange transfer from Colombo airport.
