Larchview, Glen of Ferness lodge near Loch Ness
Wee self-catering 2nd floor flat within the Glen of Ferness lodge. The building is riverside and has a stepped and ramped access up to our flat. The flat has a single dedicated parking space at the back beside a yacht! The village is on the shores of Loch Ness and the Loch and Urquhart castle are within walking distance. The village has lots of ‘Nessie’ going on and after you have spotted her then the village is a good base to tour the highlands. The flat has a few interesting features. Our entrance passes our neighbours flat and their dog may welcome you with a bark! The bedrooms are quite small but the living space is open and airy and has an open outlook. The back bedroom is off the kitchen and has the hot water switch and an integrated rather odd bi-fold door for a wardrobe. Guests will have the whole flat and just at the front door is a lockable storeroom if needed for bike storage or wet weather gear. My husband David and I live just 10 minutes away and will be able to assist you if you have any issues during your stay. The biggest attraction is Loch Ness and Urquhart castle. In addition the walks around the local glens will reward you with stunning views and waterfalls. Boat trips can be arranged from the nearby Clansman hotel, or from Fort Augustus at the south end of Loch Ness or Inverness at the north end. There is a local Co-op shop which is well stocked, a pharmacy over the road. A chip shop is adjacent to the shop and round the corner there is a Chinese take-away. Cafe 82 and The Ness Deli take care of our cafe needs and Meiles gelateria serving ice cream is now at the Loch Ness Centre and Exhibition. The Loch Ness Inn at the end of our road and The Benleva, Fiddlers and Drumnadrochit hotel all offer non-resident dining. The village is along the great Glen way walking route. There are regular buses to Inverness and Fort-William. There are many local walks to Craigmonie woods and to Divach falls and Queen Mary’s rock which offers great views of the village and Loch Ness. Heading south of the village on the A82 towards Fort Augustus you can view the canal locks and south end of Loch Ness. Continuing on towards Fort William, Ben Nevis is 1 hours drive south and Skye is 1.5 hours drive. North routes take you to Inverness, 25 minutes away and from there you can continue on the NC 500 route around the north of Scotland.
