1849 Victoria Flour Mill Counting House
Built on this site in 1845, the Victoria Mill, then owned by Walter Duffield, burned to the ground in 1867. Thankfully, the Counting House, Counting House Office and Weigh Bridge Office were saved. The Counting House accommodates one or two couples, in an incredibly unique piece of Gawler's history. A kitchen, including breakfast, dining room, reading room, lounge and two bedrooms are under the main roof, with the bathroom in a lean-to under the verandah. Bathrobes supplied! Furnished. This is a seriously old building, with some lovely, interesting quirks. Guests can enjoy it's unique place in Gawler's history whilst enjoying good quality linen, comfortable beds, reverse cycle heating and cooling, a lovely kitchen, electric lighting and hot water from pipes! Future upgrades and additions are planned, but for now, share an unique experience, at a fair price. Guests have access to the whole cottage and may park onsite. Wifi and Netflix provided. I am always available on the mobile, responding within 2 hours, usually immediately. Gawler is steeped in history and the Counting House is located a short distance to the main street and shops, surrounded by other historical buildings. There are many self-guided walks available and bike paths along the rivers. This property is two streets away from my other available Gawler listings which are part of the Old Gawler Courthouse. Parking is available onsite (outdoors), a short stroll to the Gawler Central Train Station or Gawler Oval Station, and bus stops are located in nearby Murray Street. Gawler Taxis have a service and many wine tour operators offer collection in Gawler. I am planning an indoor bathroom in the future, but please be advised the current bathroom necessitates stepping outside under the verandah to access. Please take care stepping into the bath.
