A ground-floor, family friendly apartment offering stunning views of the Pyrenees. Set on the grounds of the Chateau de Gudanes, our apartment is an end-of-terrace apartment. Benefiting from upstairs windows, the mezzanine bedrooms overlook the living area below. With it's own terrace, you can be sure to enjoy alfresco dining outside taking in the serenity and sights of the surrounding area. Our apartment benefits from being end-of-terrace and thereby having bedroom windows upstairs, a real bonus in the summer months! Upgrades this year include: a new washing machine, brand new bedding throughout, and WIFI connectivity - the password is available upon request. In addition, we have a separate WC within the spacious bathroom, a bath with a shower, a fully-fitted kitchen with hob, oven, microwave, dishwasher and fridge-freezer. The living room is now equipped with a flat-screen television, a PS2 and a DVD player. There are board games, outdoor games and books available for you to use. We provide linen and towels for you to use. PLEASE NOTE: Currently there is NO access to the pool or tennis court. Patio furniture including a parasol with it's stand, 1 sun-lounger and 6 patio chairs. The dining tables can be used outdoors. A meet and greet service is available. Our contacts will provide you with the key and will be your point of contact should you have any queries during you stay. Stunning views of the Pyrennees, with as much or as little for you to do! Things to do: many local walks, guided walks, fishing in the village, canoeing, kayaking, horse-riding in the village, downhill and cross-country skiing at Ax-les-Thermes or the Plateau de Beille (16km away), indoor pool at Ax-les-Thermes (11 km away), good local markets selling a range of produce and other hand-made items. The night markets in Mirepoix are excellent with some really great restaurants surrounding the main square. Places to visit: the many local underground caves - Niaux and the underground river at Labouiche were brilliant, booking may be required. The Wolf sanctuary, Potterie de Léo and Akrobranche all situated in Orlu (about 30 mins drive away). Things to see: Castles in the area including Montségur, a significant and local Cathar Castle. The wildlife, fauna and flora of the area including the Eagles at Lordat nr Luzenac (about 20 mins drive) The village: A Spar, bakery, bar, cafés, restaurants, tourist office, post office, a pharmacy, doctor's surgery (by appointment), hairdressers, recycling bins. Highly recommended in the village are both the Pétanque competition and the celebration of Astérix and Obélix during Le Banquet Gaulois, a very funny night! The Tour de France passes through the village. Entertainment: Cinemas in Tarascon, Ax-les-Thermes and Foix, play parks in Aston and Ax-les-Thermes, a casino in Ax-les-Thermes, crazy golf in Les Cabannes. Nearest railway stations are in Les Cabannes or in Tarascon. A car would be advisable. Sleeping arrangements for children: Bedrooms are on a mezzanine floor meaning that once children are in bed, any noise from downstairs can be heard upstairs. Whilst this may not be a problem for older children, we advise parents of children to take this into careful consideration before booking.
