Foxgloves & Fairytales Shepherds Hut
Foxgloves & Fairytales provides a perfect escape from the demands and stresses of everyday life. This simple and private outdoor space is completely on its own in a 5 acre field with no other guests around. It’s nestled quietly on a gentle hillside, beside trees and pasture land. There’s mountain views to nourish and inspire you, bluebells in the woods in spring and wildflowers in the meadow in summer. Turn down the noise in your life and tune in to nature’s rhythms instead. Bliss! The shepherds hut is light and airy. Its an uncluttered and quiet space, just what you need to unwind, relax and sleep well. It has a comfortable full size double bed, two chairs, storage cupboard and a cosy wood burning stove. A complimentary starter pack of kindling and logs is provided for you. The stable style door opens out onto a porch/platform and there are steps down to the patio with table and chairs for alfresco dining. Perfect for watching amazing sunsets and gazing at starry skies. The outdoor cooking area is undercover in an open fronted log cabin. Two ring gas hob to cook simple ‘camping style’ meals, stainless steel worktops for food preparation, kitchen sink with hot running water. Fridge and basic kitchen equipment is provided; pots and pans, crockery, cutlery and some ingredients such as salt, pepper and oil. In addition to the practical benefits of having a separate cabin, (i.e. you don’t have to cook in your bedroom and you’ve got somewhere else to put your walking boots) it also offers an additional undercover space to enjoy your surroundings. You’ll have shelter on a rainy day and welcome shade during a heatwave. There’s a small charcoal BBQ and a fire-pit so you can relax around the campfire with a glass of wine in the evenings. A hot shower and wash hand basin are inside the cabin. Towels and planet friendly shower gel and shampoo provided. The spacious composting toilet is located next to the cabin. It’s sparkling, clean and fresh. There’s a hand washing sink and a sanitiser dispenser inside. If you need to stay in touch with friends or family back home, there’s a good 4G mobile phone signal. Foxgloves & Fairytales is enclosed in a paddock within a five acre field. Free parking for one car beside the paddock. If you have an electric vehicle you can charge it at the farmhouse for the cost of electricity used. We have 12 acres of land and woods. We keep a small flock of pedigree sheep and two pygmy goats. Feel free to wander. We live in the farmhouse 5 minutes walk (one field away) so if you need any help, or have any questions during your stay, we’ll be nearby. We are in a quiet rural location surrounded by nature. You can see the majestic Brecon Beacon mountains, woodland and pasture land from the shepherds hut windows and there’s an abundance of wildlife. The nearest shop for milk, bread, chocolate etc is the Village Shop in Llanwrda, 1.5 miles away. The nearest town is Llandovery, an old historic drovers town and around 6 miles away. It has 3 cafe’s, several pubs serving delicious good value food, a proper fish & chip shop, Indian and Chinese takeaways, a couple of small supermarkets, tourist information centre, doctor, dentist and pharmacy. The pretty town of Llandeilo is about 8 miles away and has several small independent, bespoke shops and cafe's, a gin house and a 1950’s style chocolate emporium that sells amazing ice cream. Just put out your arm to stop the train! We recommend getting a day return from Llanwrda to Shrewsbury. The views from the train are fantastic. Shrewsbury has all your usual high street stores, a host of small independent shops and good eateries for a spot of lunch before setting back on your return journey. A car is essential to get around. There are several cycling routes nearby. We provide eco friendly washing-up liquid, shower gel and shampoo for you to ensure our environmentally friendly reed bed system works effectively. Our sheep are early risers and can be noisy, especially in spring when they have lambs. They often graze in the 5 acre field.
