Set in the countryside, 2.5 miles from Condat and adjoining our own home, is our Cantal farmhouse known as a longère. Thick stone walls, wooden beams, large living room with traditional fire place and log burner, internet tv, two bedrooms, bathroom, and fitted kitchen. Enjoy sitting by a roaring log fire in the winter or in the shade of the old lime tree with a glass of wine enjoying the spectacular views in the summer. Whatever the time of year, you’ll enjoy the Longère’s comfort and charm. On a country lane near Condat, at an altitude of 805m. The longere has metre thick stone walls, massive beams, two bedrooms, a shower room, a big living room with fitted kitchen (dishwasher, microwave, big fridge) and a wood burning fire in the old hearth. Comfy beds (in the main bedroom a romantic lit-clos, 6' 6" x 5', and two 6' 3" x 3' beds in the second bedroom), plenty of cupboard space, non-allergic bedding, lots of hot water and a roomy shower. The Longère has a dishwasher, washing machine, large fridge and microwave as well as a high-speed wireless internet connection. In hot weather, the thick walls keep the inside deliciously cool. For winter there’s a large central heating radiator and a hefty wood-burning stove in the main room. Also, electric radiators in bedrooms and bathroom, . Guests have full access to all parts of the longere and courtyard, with off road parking. Under cover parking also available for motorbikes. We offer a full concierge service. If you would like groceries, wine, help arranging transportation, please inquire for details. We supply a good initial stock of firewood free, but if you need more we sell bags at 5 euros each or firewood can be bought locally. The Cantal countryside is gorgeous, with clear fresh running streams and rivers, mountain walks and wooded slopes. Ideal for outdoor activities including skiing 25 minutes away at Super Besse, kayaking, fishing, and hiking. Our nearby town of Condat has all the basic facilities as well as an outdoor swimming pool, Les Ecuries riding school with 27 horses, a bank & post office as well as a chemist etc while the larger town of Riom es Montagnes (20mins away) provides a fortnightly market and all the facilities of a delightful country town. Other weekly markets take place at Besse & Bort Les Orgues with a large saturday market at Issoire. The Gentiane Express provides train rides through the mountainous countryside and the Velorail at Landeyrat gives visitors the opportunity to "cycle" along scenic railways. The World of Bees near Saint Saturnin has a fascinating display detailing the life of the bee and how honey is harvested with free samples for all, and the Dinosaur Museum in Condat has ancient bones and fossils of long dead monsters ! Nearby Chateau du Val provides an exciting insight into life in ancient times with glorious views across the reservoir. The ruins of Chateau Apchon provide a wonderful panoramic view also. A car is required.
