A tranquil spot nestling under an old oak tree.
A tranquil, rustic camping dome nestling in the shade of an old oak tree. Are you looking for simplicity, mindfulness, nature? You will find all these and more hidden away at our peaceful smallholding in central France. A simple, rustic, rural retreat, a sanctuary from the rat-race, yet close enough to villages and small towns to experience its distinct 'Frenchness' - collect your freshly baked bread and morning croissants from the local bakery! Our simple but comfortable geodesic dome has been built using predominantly recycled and natural materials. There is an evaporation cooler beside the kitchen area and a dedicated compost toilet and solar shower sheltered amongst broom and elder-flower; all lighting in these areas is solar powered A wood-burning stove means you’ll always stay toasty, no matter the weather! Enjoy the shade, watching the birds and wildlife, or enjoy a magical evening, gazing at the beautiful starry sky, where the Milky Way can be seen in all its glory, in our unpolluted skies. We are in the (slow) process of reclaiming the land from brambles and nettles, but a walk around the small holding is kept cut, taking in a small stone circle and rustic rose arch. It passes the fields where we have a small flock of Jacob sheep, and returns via a large flat field, just across the small private track from the dome – perfect for children (and grown-ups) to run around and play. The dome is situated on our small holding, so there is usually someone around if you need any help. We are happy to engage with you during your stay, or leave you entirely to your private enjoyment. The sheep and chickens pose no threat to children, so they can safely wonder round the small holding, creating their own adventures. The closest village, Lussac Les Eglises, has small independent food shops and cafes and a Pharmacie (serving all the essential needs of a small community), whilst nearby towns, La Souterraine, Montmorillon, Le Dorat, Bellac offer the larger shops and markets. The summer farmers’ markets are not to be missed – with eating, drinking, music and dancing in the squares. Nearby, Lake Mondon offers a small range of leisure facilities with an open-air swimming pool, bar and restaurant. Lake Morat, easily walkable from us, provides a quiet hide from which to observe the migrating water birds. NB: Some restrictions are in place this year due to Covid-19 Cycling around our quiet roads is truly pleasurable. Traffic is never heavy and the small country roads don’t lend themselves to speed-hungry vehicles. Talking of cycling, if you are keen cyclists, this year the Tour de France passes through Le Dorat, a small market town just 20 mins from here. There are train stations at La Souterraine and Le Dorat from where you can reach busier towns like Limoges and Chateauroux
