If you are looking for somewhere to get away from it all, then HUMPERDINK is the ideal stay-cation for you. Situated next to a 750 acre bird reserve close to a creek, an often deserted shingle/sand beach and sea with plenty of home comforts to make your stay enjoyable. Totally unique situation with lovely walks and away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life with an opportunity to recharge your batteries and enjoy the peace and quiet of Humperdink and its surrounding area. Our family have owned Humperdink since (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) and in (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) my husband and I brought it into the 21st century, retaining its charm and character while adding some new comforts, including gas central heating with radiators and running hot water (which is a first for us never having this luxury before!) to make any stay memorable and pleasurable whatever the weather, or time of year. The surrounding area is fields, however the river, sea and beach are just over the sea wall, where you can walk and enjoy the views, swim in the sea, or even in the river at high tide, or enjoy the beach but you can stay at our cottage, sit in the front garden and watch the sheep in the field opposite or dine at the table and chairs on the decking at the back of the property and listen to the wildlife right on your doorstep, away from the hustle and bustle of reality and watch the beautiful sunsets, if you're lucky. There is the opportunity to go back to your childhood and go crabbing just over the sea wall just before or after the tide turns or there is a jetty about half way along the road over the sea wall walking towards the houses on the beach or watch the high tides transform the landscape with the high high or low low tides, depending on the moon cycle. You may even experience a high high tide which are spectacular and usually happen in the spring and autumn! We have no hidden extras with our home, bed linen and towels are all included in the price. All pillows and mattresses have protector covers and are non allergic. We are abiding by all the suggestions of cleaning and sanitising our property provided by (Hidden by Airbnb) and doing our very best to ensure you have a safe stay in our cottage. Check in is 4 pm and check out is 11 am. The house has two bedrooms upstairs, one with a Shaker wooden Kingsize bed, that has views to the sea and a second bedroom with a wooden double bed,, as well as a single bed, so this room can actually sleep three. Therefore this house can sleep 7. The back bedroom has spectacular views across the fields and also to the sea, where you can see the Wind Turbines near Clacton or watch the boats out to sea from the front bedroom. There is a room downstairs, at the back of the property, that can either be a bedroom as it has an Ikea sofabed that converts to a comfortable double bed, or a playroom. This room has french doors which open out onto a decking area, complete with rattan chairs and a dining table, all ready for you to enjoy your meal or drink a la fresco during the warmer weather! However, during the winter the table and chairs are stored in the garage but there is a picnic table with benches available on the decking, should the weather allow The outside lights work together and the switch is under the electric box in the kitchen just above the light switch to the kitchen. We have a travel cot and high chair, if appropriate, as well having a stairgate fitted at the bottom of the stairs. There are also a few toys for children of all ages, in the downstairs back room and a couzy coupe car, a pushalong bike and another sit on toy in the garage. We provide a bin bag, with a spare, under the sink and a loo roll, as well as a couple of tea towels for your stay. Our house (known to us as "the cottage") has an open living space where you can cook, eat and socialize. There is a fitted, fully equipped kitchen, with a washing machine, electric oven, hob and microwave. There is a coffee machine that uses Dulce gusto pods available for your use. In the living space there is a SMART TV/DVD player/ radio in the comfy sitting area and a dining room table and 7 chairs. The bathroom again was completely revamped with a shower over the bath. The unique location on the Essex coast, which incidentally is one of the driest places in the UK, is adjacent to the Essex Wildlife Trust reserve on Colne Point which has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest affording habitat for many different birds both resident and migratory. As a guest you are allowed access to the beaches and wildlife reserve, which could be described as a very exclusive experience as only members and residents are usually allowed. Just walk over the sea wall, follow the road round to the right, through the first gate, past a few houses, through a second gate, over the bridge, past the hut, follow the well trodden path and you will end up on an almost deserted beach which is shingle, and sand at low tide. Escape to our comfy and welcoming house and have a holiday you will always remember, away from the hustle and bustle of reality, an opportunity to enjoy the freedom that life rarely offers. The sea air will also help you to have a really good night's sleep. All except cupboard under the stairs and the boat and tumble dryer, in the garage, this is for our own use please. We will be in contact with you about a week before your stay to give you, by email, the code to the keysafe which contains the keys around the side of the property near the box that contains the gas cylinders. We will also give you the connection code to the internet and the password. as well as other information about the area and directions of how to get there, hopefully everything you need to make your stay enjoyable. Our neighbours, Robbie and Elaine, are friendly and extremely helpful, if you need any help. We are happy to answer any other queries to make your stay as lovely as possible but otherwise we leave you to enjoy your stay and the peace and tranquility that the area has to offer. There is a convenience store located on the road to Point Clear. At the junction of Lee Wick Lane turn left when coming away from the cottage and the store can be found about 500 yards on the left hand side. They sell just about everything and the prices are very keen too. Don't forget to pick up any essentials before you arrive at Humperdink! The nearest village is St Osyth and it's ten minutes by car orabout an hour should you want to go by foot. There is an Ordinance survey map in the cottage for you to explore the area. St Osyth is a lovely village with a Priory, excellent butchers, Budgen convenience store, Indian (Balti House which will deliver), Curve Wake Park which has various things to offer (worth looking at (Hidden by Airbnb) for more information) and a couple of pubs, as well as a lovely tea room in the main street. There is also Greenland Grove Animal Sanctory, CO16 8JE which previous guests have found fun to visit. There is also the St Osyth Village Gun Club. They have regular meetings and clay pigeon shoots and welcome guests, as long as they have notice beforehand. Unfortunately, we understand the fish and chip shop in St Osyth has closed down but the reviews for the Sailor Boy Fish and chip shop, Beach Road, Clacton on Sea, C016 8TB are very good on Trip Adviser and is only 7 mins away from St Osyth. We have, however, yet to sample it's wares! Clacton, Frinton, Walton, Brightlingsea and Colchester are all, at the most, 20 - 30 minutes away by car offering you a variety of amusements and shops. If you need larger supermarkets you can find them all in either Clacton or Colchester, certainly Tescos and Waitrose will deliver. Clacton has a safe, sandy beach, Pier and amusements, cinema, restaurants and nightlife. Recently Clacton opened a large water park called the Pavilion Fun Park , Marine Parade West, Clacton, Essex, CO15 1QX. Tenpin Bowling is open all year round , weather dependent so please (Hidden by Airbnb) for more details. Also, Clacton holds its annual Carnival and fireworks in the middle of August and also the Clacton Air show is held yearly towards the end of August. There is also Hasty's Adventure Farm, West Road, Clacon On Sea, C)15 1AG. This has been recommended to us by other guests, particularly those with children who have happily spent a day there. Frinton is much quieter and old fashioned, again with a sandy beach, beware of where you sit on the beach as when the tide comes in you may find you have to move! Colchester is more cultural with a Castle, old city wall, theatre, Zoo, indoor swimming complex and Spa as well as shops and nightlife. Brightlingsea is a lovely village to visit and there are two foot ferries, route one which is Brightlingsea, point clear and East Mersea Stone and route two which is Brightlingsea, Wivenhoe, Rowhedge and Colchester. Again, worth using (Hidden by Airbnb) to check details. Brightlingsea and Mersea have amazing firework displays during the month of August which are visible from our cottage! However, Humperdink and its surroundings has a lot to offer such as walks, peaceful surroundings for you to unwind in and just enjoy, recharge your batteries and forget about the outside world! You need a car, however, once there you will probably decide to leave the car keys at the cottage as there are are plenty of places to ride a bicycle, should you take yours with you, and of course walk on the often deserted beach or along the sea wall to St Osyth beach. Previous guests who wish to stay again will be happy to hear there is a lovely new road that has replaced the first part of the road from the farm. Dogs are very welcome at Humperdink but we do ask that we are advised about this when you book please and we only allow 2 dogs. There is also a charge of £20 per dog per stay to cover any extra cleaning. We do ask please that you clean up after your dog during your stay please and your dogs don’t sleep on the beds please. We have fast broadband at our cottage and the code will be sent with the keysafe code just before your stay. Don't forget your wellies, or an old pair of trainers to enjoy the wildlife and you will find a couple of books to help you identify the birds, if you so wish. There are some binoculars at our cottage for you to enjoy during your stay. There are games, some DVDs and lots of books to enjoy. The garden around our cottage is not fenced off as we have kept this as unspoiled as possible allowing you to enjoy the uniqueness of the area. At the end of your stay please leave Humperdink as you found it, clean and tidy with the bin in the kitchen emptied. Please also ensure the property is locked securely when you go out or leave at the end of your stay. We reserve the right to charge if extra cleaning is required, particularly with dogs and also for any badly damaged bed linen or towels or damage to the furniture. We do hope that you have a lovely enjoyable stay at Humperdink, we think it is in rather unique surroundings but then we are rather biased!!! Please feel free to leave your comment in our guest book at out cottage.
