Hazelwood - Stunning apartment in Somerset
Hazelwood is a newly renovated, luxurious apartment overlooking an acre of beautiful gardens and fields beyond. On the first floor of The Mount, a Georgian house, Hazelwood is just a stone's throw from the centre of the charming village of Somerton, and a short drive to Wells, Glastonbury, Stourhead, Street and Ilchester. It is south facing for light and sunshine, and perfect for a peaceful getaway, or a country break to go sightseeing, cycling or walking. And there's plenty of parking. Hazelwood has a spacious modern dining room/kitchen featuring a new breakfast bar overlooking the garden, which is also perfect for a quiet space to work on your laptop. Or you might choose to spread out at the dining table, with its designer pink chairs. There is an induction hob, combi oven/ microwave and fridge/freezer. You will arrive at Hazelwood after your journey to be welcomed with all the essentials including a selection of teas, coffee and a cafetiere, milk, sugar, fresh bread, jam, yoghurt and cereal. All your cooking utensils are supplied, as well as tea towels, crockery and washing up liquid. The open plan lounge is an incredible spot to relax and unwind with a 2 seater couch and a comfortable lounge chair. It is warm in winter and sunny and light. The spacious bathroom is stunning with floor to ceiling tiles and 3 windows, a large shower, underfloor heating and a heated towel rail. From your bedroom you look south across the garden and fields beyond. It has a beautiful white king sized bed with lovely linen and two windows with sun and light. Hazelwood is one of two lovely newly renovated apartments in The Mount, a 230 year old manor house, originally Georgian, with Victorian embellishment including the original Hamstone front door surround. Gas central heating, electricity, towels and high-speed broadband Wi-Fi are all included. Don’t forget the The ‘Secret Garden’ a private enclosed, lawned and walled garden with table and chairs especially designed for the two apartments at The Mount. The Georgian love of light and large windows means Hazelwood is a very sunny and welcoming apartment. One of the charms of Hazelwood is that you are enjoying a totally tranquil, sunny setting with rural views, and yet you are so close to Somerton’s picturesque market square. This is a thriving village with its 17th century Buttercross, the church with origins dating back 800 years, and many independent shops. We have a range of places to eat, The White Hart, the Globe and the Unicorn, two cafes, an Indian restaurant and a fine dining experience at Number 28 Market Place. Somerton also has an antiques emporium, two bakeries, a butcher, health food shop, stationer, wine shop, shoe shop, fruiterer, post office, library, pharmacy, and a Co-op supermarket. The Mount is a perfect base for sightseeing South Somerset: Glastonbury Tor, the spectacular 13th century Wells cathedral and Bishops Palace with its moat, and the Ham Wall RSPB nature reserve. A short drive takes you to National Trust properties including Lytes Cary Manor (5 minutes) Barrington Court (15 Minutes) and Montacute (15 minutes) while half an hour away is Stourhead, set in 200 acres with its lake framed by monuments, a must-see. The Hanging Chapel in Langport is 10 minutes away, as is the Fleet Air Arm museum at Yeovilton, Ilchester, and Haynes International Motor Museum. World Horse Welfare is five minutes from The Mount, at the Glenda Spooner Farm. And don’t forget the 90 designer and outlet shops in Clarks Village in Street (12 minutes away) Cheddar Gorge and caves (45 minutes) and Bath, Bristol and Exeter, all roughly an hour’s drive away, and the famous Dunster Castle is only an hour away on the coast. We have several bicycles for guests to use to cycle into the village, or for enjoying a ride on one of the fabulous local cycle circuits (which we provide maps for). Laundry: your washing and drying is done for you on request, as we have a large drying room. There is plenty of private parking available in our large turn around driveway. The two apartments in the Mount, Beechwood and Hazelwood, are each on their own floor. The owners live onsite in another wing of the house, and should you have any requests during your stay we are delighted to help. In fact after 9 years of welcoming guests to the Mount for Bed and Breakfast and outstanding reviews, (9.9 on (Website hidden by Airbnb) we know how to make sure our guests have the best stay in Somerset. The closest railway stations are Yeovil Pen Mill (for Bristol and Weymouth) and Castle Cary (for Taunton and Paddington), each about 15 minutes away from The Mount. Your hosts Trish and Henry live onsite, in a separate part of the house, and we are always available for you if you need anything. For years we did bed and breakfast, and we love to welcome guests personally, to make sure that you have everything you need and have a great stay. Somerton is a small 17th century market town ideally placed for touring the Somerset/Dorset/Wiltshire area as we are just a few minutes' from the A303. We are very lucky to have in Somerton a thriving local community with a CoOp supermarket, stationery shop, TSB Bank and a fabulous health food shop, Cobbs, as well as various other independent shops within a couple of minutes' walk from The Mount. And four pubs plus an upmarket new dining venue. Your hosts Trish and Henry can give you plenty of advice on local attractions and walks, and we have maps showing interesting walks or cycle rides for visitors.
