Grandma’s Cottage

Grandma’s Cottage is a rural retreat to enjoy a romantic weekend away, or a quiet place to rest after full days exploring the local towns. Set amongst an array of beautiful trees, sunsets for days and visiting wildlife, this is a gorgeous destination to help you slow down and be in the moment. The Cottage has everything you need for a couple or young family, and with Ballarat just a 12-minute drive away you won’t be short of things to do. The Cottage looks out onto a clear paddock, filled with roaming bunnies, and a variety of birdlife to delight at from the comfort of the balcony. The accommodation space is a studio which includes an open plan kitchen, dining and lounge spaces, with the master bedroom on a raised floor behind a privacy wall. The bathroom gives you a chance to relax in the spa bath and includes a laundry to ensure you can be totally self sufficient on your travels. The kitchen is fully kitted out with a dishwasher, oven and a portable cook top, as well as a pantry stocked with breakfast options and essential supplies. We also have local wines available with an honesty payment system. The bedroom includes a double bed laden with luxurious linens to keep you comfy in every season. The lounge has a trundle bed which works as a sofa to sink into during the day and can be pulled out into a king size bed at night for extra guests. We can provide a cot and high chair for babes, on request. The drawers of the trundle are stocked with toys, lawn games, books and extra pillows. The cottage has a split system (air-conditioning and heating) to keep you cool in summer and warm in winter. And the outdoor fire pit will add to the romance of the sunsets. Guests are welcome to enjoy the garden, forested area and pond. There is a rustic outdoor space at the front of the cottage for a fire pit with marshmallows. Evan and I live in the main house on the property and are available if you need anything, otherwise we won't interrupt your stay. Smythes Creek is a quiet rural neighbourhood with some special gems to seek out on your stay. Around the corner we are blessed with the Ballarat Mushroom Farm's farm gate stocked with fresh produce sourced locally. We have a monthly art trail to explore and the Nintingbool Winery to taste local wines. The best way to get to us is via car as we are a little way out of town. We have free parking next to the Cottage. We have room for a caravan or horse float, please let us know if you are traveling with any large vehicles to make sure the way is clear for you. We live on the property and can help with anything you need. We always aim to give guests as much privacy as possible however we are sometimes out and about enjoying the acreage or doing required maintenance. We have free range chickens, you are very welcome to check their coup for eggs throughout the day.
