The Shieling
The Shieling is a quirky, rustic barn conversion attached to the owners house although privately situated and set in an idyllic countryside location 150yards from the creek side village of Port Navas on the beautiful Helford River. There is a pebbled south-facing terrace for the exclusive use of guests. The Shieling is a single-storey open-plan studio barn conversion, with a seating area, TV, & double bed, a small kitchen area with table & chairs, basic cooking facilities including a table-top oven/grill and two-ring plug-in hob. There is also a BBQ on the terrace. The barn is set on a lower level than the owners house overlooking the large gardens, and enjoys a high degree of privacy. The property is accessed via the owner’s driveway, through a gateway and down a slope and along a short pathway to the entrance. The terrace overlooks a large lawned area with apple trees leading to a wooded area and wildlife pond, beyond this is a meadow. Guests are welcome to walk around the whole of this lower area, however the upper area and balcony is for the owner’s use. The Shieling is a place where guests can ‘get away from it all’. We will respect their privacy but will be on hand and happy to share our local knowledge. Port Navas is a quiet, picturesque creek side village. There is a small village hall which hosts local events such as art exhibitions, talks and coffee mornings. There is also a small yacht club with a restaurant. It’s just a short walk to the beautiful Polwheveral Creek and the Potager Cafe. The South West coast path is just 2 miles away overlooking Falmouth bay and the Helford river, where you can walk from Helford Passage to Durgan beach, and further along to the Falmouth beaches of Maenporth, Swanpool and Gyllyngvase. Trebah Gardens, Glendurgan gardens and Constantine are just a short drive away. The nearest towns are Falmouth & Penryn which are 6 miles away. There is no public transport from the village, although there is a bus service from Constantine which is 2 miles away. The nearest train stations are at Penryn and Falmouth. Please note: there are some narrow & single-track lanes on the approach to the village and property. For safety reasons the property is not suitable for toddlers and young children, but couples with a baby are welcome . Baby-sitting available. (Note you would need to bring your own cot & equipment). There is also a mezzanine suitable for an older child 12+. Please enquire before booking. There is a free slipway just 5 mins walk away where small boats and kayaks can be launched for anyone wishing to explore the beautiful Helford River.
