Piki Matiti
Piki Matiti (which means "long summer") is perfect for a couple or family of 4. Just a few metres from the beach, you'll hear the birds sing and the sea sigh here. This sunny and super-comfortable kiwi bach has been thoughtfully designed and kitted out. The interior is creative and definitely local with art, craft and ceramics. Stretch out on the sunny window seat, park up at the 6-seater oak table or be cosy around the log fire. Beds have cotton sheets and in cooler weather, alpaca wool duvets to make your stay more comfortable. Sheridan towels for the Marimekko-inspired bathroom. 2 toilets. Outside, big wooden decks catch the sun rise and sunset. Tui swoop and dive amongst the pohutukawa blooms in summer. At night, the stars are crisp and clear. No streetlights here! Bring out the hurricane lantern and enjoy the glow from locally-made "Living Light" candles while you sit around the massive outside fire &pizza oven. Parapara is handy to the Mussel Inn, 8 minutes from Collingwood and 20 mins from Takaka. The whole house with its native garden plantings and sheltered back lawn is yours to enjoy. You have access to a shed containing the paddle for a skiff-kayak. Your host, Ros, can be contacted by mobile phone. Guests will be emailed a detailed Directions sheet to locate the bach and gain access via a secure Lock Box. Parapara is a quiet beachside community where the gentle beach, with its soft sand and scatterings of driftwood, is the main attraction. A nature Reserve at one end of the beach is home to Oystercatchers and native birds that nest in the grasses. At the other end, the beach leads around a headland to Tukurua campground. Regenerating bush attracts tuis and wood pigeons (kereru) which feed on kowhai and flax flowers. Keep an eye out for California quail and if you are up early on beach in the morning, you might see tracks made by little blue penguins trooping down to the water.
