The big Entertaining area is fully insect screened. There is abundant bird life, with Bower Birds, Rosellas, King Parrots and Tawny Frogmouth Owls. Here you can relax and settle into the valley with its peace, beauty and softly grazing cattle. Two and a half hours from Sydney and one hour from Newcastle, Dungog and Clarence Town are quaint Hunter Valley country towns In Dungog there are cafes and restaurants, the Tin Shed Brewery, art galleries, boutiques, local artisan handicrafts, antiques shops, florists. an information bureau, a museum, a bike shop and Australia's oldest purpose-built still operating cinema. For exercise visit the swimming pools, take a dip in the river or hike on Dungog Common which covers 650 acres and has a renowned mountain bike track. There are a many walking tracks and picnic spots in the Shire, at Barrington Tops and at ChichesterDam On Saturday mornings enjoy coffee or breakfast in town, visit the local growers market and buy locally grazed beef from the Providores or stone-ground organic bread direct from the baker's van. Oysters, prawns and fish are usually available from the mobile van Clarence Town provides great access to the Williams River for boating and fishing, or you may wish to visit its authentic Aussie Bush Pub, the Erringhi Hotel. Barrington Tops National Park, Port Stephens and its beaches, and the Hunter Valley wineries are an hour's drive away. Historic Morpeth on the Hunter River is a thirty five minute drive. The surrounding countryside was a timber producing area and is now mainly devoted to grazing. Stunning views make driving a pleasure. Enjoy the open country roads, the freedom and fresh air. Even catch a train from Wallarobba to Maitland and Newcastle. Lyndhurst is positioned amongst working farms. Occassionally, to gain access, it may be necessary to open a farm gate. Please always close it and release your pets once they are in the grounds of Lyndhurst. Obviously cleanliness and sanitization are exceptionally important for all of us.
