Located atop the iconic Watchman's Ridge at Karekare beach, this house provides an authentic west coast experience. A family home designed in the 1960's by landscape architect Harry Turbott, this unique house is made from reclaimed kauri and other native timber. It features an open plan interior. The spot has expansive sea views that encompass the surrounding coastal hills. A separate secluded studio nestles against the house overlooking the dunes and ocean. Whether you are in need of a quiet escape, a base for local tramping expeditions or that classic holiday at the beach, Watchman House has something for everyone. It is just a 7-minute walk to the water’s edge. This is a west coast big surf beach with exhilarating summer swimming. The beach is patrolled weekends by the surf life-saving club (Labour weekend to Easter) and all week during the summer holidays for those who want to get on a boogie board or take a dip. Multiple surf breaks are found along this coast. Karekare is a great location to hunt swell, with Piha right next door and Bethells Beach further north up the coast. Watchman House is an ideal base for trampers to explore the Waitakere Ranges. It is close to the recently opened Comans and Ahu Ahu loop tracks and an easy walk to the Karekare Falls. Come and explore the fabulous natural environment. There is a cafe, dairy, art gallery and EV charging station at Piha (10 mins drive). The nearest supermarket and petrol is in Henderson (30 mins drive). Access to this secluded home is a 2-minute walk uphill on a well graded and formed path from your car. Spark mobile coverage only. One queen bed and one single bed are located in the main house with the other queen bed in the studio. From 2022 onwards we are likely to require vaccine certificates (passports) if provided for by the NZ Government. Exceptions will be provided for those ineligible for vaccination.
