HILL HOUSE GARUDA a recently built Forest Cabin.

6km NE of Rantepao. A rural self contained 3 bedroom dwelling set in a bamboo forest beside terraced rice fields. Within 80 meters of other village houses. Be looked after by people in the village and by qualified tour guides. Experience village life. Use this house as a base for trekking and exploring Tana Toraja. Has a kitchen and clean separate bathroom (toilet and shower). Recently built by an Australian Engineer/Architect for his part time personal use and as a gift to the local village. The house is now finished. There is no other rentable house like this in Toraja. Built in traditional style from local wood with a high class of carpentry. The views from the front veranda over the rice fields and forest are "to die for." The site is quite and serene. Guests can enjoy the whole house. The bathroom and toilet are in a detached brick building located a few metres from the house. The cottage is vacant and with a separate private bathroom. From the small community cluster of houses beside the main village road, a path leads down through a banana and bamboo forest to the cottage and amenity building. Guests are free to explore the village and forest areas nearby. Village ladies will clean and cook for guests. Qualified tour guides will arrange transport and itineraries for exploring Tana Toraja. Ayub the manager is a qualified tour guide from this village and is available to ensure your stay includes advice on trekking and exploring the area. Ayub now lives in Rantepao and can meet your bus or elsewhere in Rantepao. He has perfect English. The view over the terraces rice fields and forests is stunning. Guests can interact with people in the village and learn about village life. The rice harvest starts in July and can be watched from the verandas. The guests will be able to mix with the village workers and gain an understanding of farm and village life. Tour guides will arrange transport. Many tourists use small motor bikes to explore the area. The house is about 6 km from Rantepao and is connected by a very good concrete road to within 60 metres of the house. There is no public transport to the Hill House. Guests need to consider their transport needs. This can be discussed with Ayub by phone or Garuda by Airbnb chat. For couples that can use small motor bikes, these can be hired in Rantepao. Families usually use the motor car owned by the tour guide. Prices are negotiable. This is a perfect place to rest and get away from noisy cities. It offers the chance to experience the village life of these very hospitable people. It is also an ideal base for trekking, exploring the region and for visiting ceremonies
