Far from the maddening tourist horde, the peaceful sounds of the rolling ocean waves & the rhythmic chugging of the local lobster boats will lull you to sleep. Stairs lead to the rocky beach, where tidepools offer amazing discoveries, and wildlife has often been spotted in the yard. Sandy River beach is close by if you’re looking for a sand beach experience. A large deck overlooking the huge yard and ocean is perfect for quality family time, or just watching the seals of Seal Island or the lobster boats hauling their traps. While the cottage is secluded, many attractions are nearby. Buy your lobsters right off the dock, and the clams and mussels may have been harvested that day. This is also the heart of wild blueberry country. The Blueberry Hut, built in the shape of a blueberry, offers blueberry confections and souvenirs. Explore Roque Bluffs State Park, the Great Wass archipelago, Machias Seal Island, Moosabec Reach, the nature trails of Beals Island, and West Quoddy Head (the easternmost point in the United States) all within an hour’s drive. Bring your passport and you can visit Campobello Island, the summer home of President Franklin Roosevelt. Within an hour and a half drive are Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor, Southwest Harbor, and all the attractions of Mount Desert Island. A public boat launch is available in town for your kayaking and canoeing adventures. In Jonesport, there is a grocery store, Beals Island has a seafood and ice cream restaurant which was honored by USA Today as the best lobster roll in Maine and Massachusetts, and nearby Machias has several dining options. The week of July 4th offers the world-famous Lobster Boat races, featuring some of the fastest lobster boats in the world.
