Situated in 22 acres of untouched forest our charming cottage is just steps from a secluded sand and pebble beach with its incredible waterfront view, fabulous sunsets, trails, and active, diverse wildlife. A happy place for children and dog friendly! A wonderful get-away any time of year! Come down the long winding driveway through 22 acres of secluded forest to discover Seal Beach Cottage is just steps from a sand and pebble beach thriving with Marine life. It has a incredible unobstructed waterfront view of Miner's Bay and Active Pass and the North Shore Mountains from the living room, kitchen, and Master bedroom. This spacious self-catered cottage is freshly painted and both the Master and twin bedrooms provided with new linens. The new Stylus pull-out couch was purchased mid-2019 with their highest end mattress with a pillow-top. It is rarely used. The is linen is provided on request. New bedroom windows, counters, sinks, faucets and wood stove installed in 2021! Plenty of room for up to 6 guests! An open floor design allows the fully equipped kitchen to enjoy the view of the shoreline while the vaulted ceiling with skylight keeps it bright. Dining room table easily seats 6. Relish the peace from the patio overlooking the beach where you can enjoy preparing your meals on the BBQ, hanging out on the hammock or watching the sun set from Adirondacks. The boat launch, wharf and buoy provide for boaters of every kind from kayakers to motor boats. There is oodles of hiking and opportunity for cycling as well as plenty of events and festivals to be enjoyed, all year round. Fern Hill Trail is our own 1.5 km trail that you are welcome to explore. It takes you through the forest, along the waterfront and out to the Point where all the seals are hauled out much of the time. It is a very beautiful walk. Fall and winter evenings are cozy after walks on the beach by the wood burning stove or the fire pit on the patio. Wireless internet and cable provided. Within 3 km of ferry, pub, and shops allowing easy access for hikers, cyclists and drivers. At all times of the year enjoy the diverse wildlife including seals, whales, eagles, heron and deer. Our cottage is a perfect retreat for anyone interested in experiencing the best of British Columbia. Two bedrooms provide lots of space for four guests and the pullout couch provides comfortable accommodation for up to 6. Seal Beach Cottage is a great spot for couples, families, and friends. Take a look at the photos - all but 3 are taken at Seal Beach! The cottage shares the property with the family's recreational home which is obscured by trees and is closer to the beach. A fully self-contained spacious cottage including its own kitchen, living room, bathroom, 2 bedrooms, and a patio with a barbecue and picnic table. There is plenty of room for parking. And 22 acres of beach and forest to explore! If we are not on the property during your stay we are always available by phone or email to help with any questions or concerns. Mayne Island is one of BC's beautiful Southern Gulf Islands. From the Vancouver lower Mainland ferry terminal it is a 65 minute direct ferry trip and from Victoria it is 50 minutes. The ferry travels through some of the most gorgeous marine views Canada has to offer. Truly a West Coast experience! You can reach us by float plane from either destination in 20 minutes. Although the cottage is tucked away from all signs of traffic, there are grocery stores, a bakery, pub, gift stores and the Summer Farmer's Market all conveniently within 2 km. Beaches Although many believe Seal Beach is the best beach on Mayne (with almost exclusive access to 1800' of sandy waterfront), there are other beaches you may want to explore. Bennett Bay Beach, Campbell Bay, Dinner Bay, and Piggott Bay Beach are popular spots and tend to have the warmest water. Most beaches are dog-friendly but please remember to pick up after your pets. Japanese Gardens Our magnificent Japanese Gardens at Dinner Bay Park on former Japanese-owned land, honours pre World War II residents and their tremendous contribution to island life. If you happen to be visiting during the Christmas season it is beautifully lit with thousands of lights. Admission is by donation. There is a playground and lovely beach adjacent to the gardens. Hiking There are many wonderful hiking trails on Mayne Island often with amazing vistas. The cottage provides the Hiking Trail brochure. In addition, we have our own 1.5 km beautiful trail through the forest and along the waterfront Farmer’s Market The Mayne Island Farmers' Market is the place to get great local produce, fantastic food and works of arts and crafts. The Market has also become the central meeting place for residents and visitors to enjoy a leisurely Saturday, engaging in great conversation and from time to time listening to a variety of live musicians. It is located by the Agricultural Hall in Miners Bay. The Farmer’s Market operates every Saturday from the May long weekend through to Thanksgiving weekend Hours: 10 am to 1 pm Shopping Miner's Bay is where you will find the main village and shopping area. It includes 2 grocery stores, a restaurant, gift stores, the post office, and a bakery. It is 1 km from the cottage and can be seen from our beach. Fernhill is another charming retail centre on the island. It offers a coffee shop, artisan gift store and upscale Farm Gate store where every day you will find freshly baked and delicious bread, muffins and soups in addition to a good selection of other offerings. Tennis Courts The tennis courts are located on Felix Jack Road next to the Mayne Island Community Centre. They are unlocked and open 8:00am to 10:00 pm April to October. In the off-season the courts are available but you need to secure the key. Kayaking and Boat Tours Opportunities for scenic tours or renting kayaks are readily available on Mayne Island. There is private parking by the back entrance, however visiting Mayne Island does not require you to bring a car. The ferry terminal is only 3 km from the cottage. An easy walk or cycle. Mayne Island has a community bus driven by volunteers that meets the ferry and for a donation provides transportation around the island and to our cottage door! If we are available we will happily give you a lift. If you want to come by boat we have a floating wharf for moorage. Mayne Island is central to all the Southern Gulf islands and makes the perfect hub for your day trips to all the other islands. Three things: #1 Well behaved dogs are welcome however we do request that they be supervised at all times, picked up after, are clean and dry when entering the cottage and remain off the furniture. There is a fee of $50/pet/stay. Please note there may be other dogs on the property. #2 Our base price covers 4 guests. Additional guests are $60 each per night. The pull-out couch linen is provided on request. #3 There is a tenting walk-in only campground on the property open April to October. The campers arrive and park fairly close to the cottage but the campsites cannot be seen from the cottage. We advertise it as quiet and family oriented. No electronic music is allowed and quiet by 11pm is enforced.
