The Old Post Office in the square
The Old Post Office sits on the corner of Broad Street and is a prominent feature of the Georgian market square. The house has been fully renovated to create an individual and stylish four bedroom home with a huge open plan living space and kitchen. Montgomery, with its 11th century castle, sits at the centre of the most spectacular walking area on the border of Wales and Shropshire. The renovation included a commitment to renewable energy with heating and hot water provided by air source heating. Guests have full and exclusive use of the house which includes the open plan ground floor which has a large sitting area, dining area and fully equipped kitchen. There is a small utility room with a washing machine and dryer plus WC. On the first floor there are two bedrooms. The largest room has a Super King 6ft bed and a large seating area. This room also has a wood burning stove and smart TV. The second bedroom is a twin. These rooms share a large bathroom which has a walk in shower, On the second floor there are a further two bedrooms - on with a Super King 6ft bed the other with twin beds. These room share a large bathroom with a walk in show and double ended roll top bath. Gerry will help with suggestions for restaurants, walks etc. and will provide a welcome hamper including homemade bread, cake and local produce. She lives just across the border in Bishop's Castle. We are situated on the Wales/ Shropshire with fabulous walking and cycling in every direction including direct access onto the Offa's Dyke Path. Montgomery is also famous for its local brewery and for Bunners the local hardware store - a true Aladdin's Cave to explore. Market days are Thursday and Saturday. Montgomery is well placed for visiting the many castles on the Welsh Marches and several National Trust properties including Powis Castle (the gardens are worth the visit alone). You would also be in striking distance for a day trip to the beach at Aberdovey, Aberystwth or Barmouth or to Lake Vyrnwy. Parking is available on on Broad Street and Kerry Street. There are regular bus services serving Welshpool and Newtown which connect with national rail. Montgomery is well served for shopping with a market on Thursday and Saturday, a Spar open 7 days a week plus other specialist shops. Visit Castle Kitchen for great soup, cakes and light meals or the Checkers Pantry for exquisite lunches - the cheese soufflé is a must. The Dragon Hotel has a good bistro restaurant and also has a small swimming pool available to non-residents.
