Waterfront House - Marko’s Cape (Markov rt) - On Marko’s Cape at Stoliv clash the winds from the mountains of Lovcen and Orjen, creating the medicinal rose winds that ensure Stoliv is known as an air spa; - Due to the wind and the sea, the air is full of aerial particles that the locals, but also doctors, say are good for “watering the lungs”; - Roses bloom in the town during summer, while camellia flowers in the spring; - Marko’s Cape (Stoliv) is located 7 km from Kotor and 12 km from Tivat; - In the taverns, you must try scallops, mussels and oysters. Stoliv is a proper coastal town, beside the sea. At the foot of Mount Vrmac, located between Marko’s Cape and Verige, the narrowest part of the Bay of Kotor and slightly off the main road, Stoliv is a dream come true for anyone seeking relaxation in peace and tranquility. Abundance of flowers adorns the windows of old stone houses, and every inch of this town is a painting that becomes engraved in memory. It is not well known that Stoliv has its own upper town on Mount Vrmac. Just a 20-minute walk from the sea, at an altitude of 240 meters above sea-level, nestled in a centennial chestnut forest is Gornji (Upper) Stoliv, a place from which ancient inhabitants descended to the sea and thus founded the new village with the same name. The place is dominated by the Church of St Ilija, alongside which there is also the smaller church of St Ana, which is believed to have originated in the 12th century. Until around ten years ago, the village in the mountain was completely abandoned, but today there are many who are interested in the ruined houses of old seafarers and miners who dug up some treasure in America. This old settlement originated in the 14th century, as part of the Kotor district, while later in the Vienna archives it was recorded as a separate municipality. At the time when Venice ruled the Bay of Kotor it had 1,200 inhabitants, four shops, two oil mills and four bakeries. There are two legends about the emergence of the name Stoliv. According to one, during rainy days on Mount Vrmac, hundreds of streams flow from the village to the sea, while the other says that every boy wanting to marry had to plant a hundred olive trees. Judging by the number of olive trees, we should believe the second story. Alongside its chestnut forest and olive groves, Stoliv is known for the camellias brought by local sailors from Japan in the 18th century.
