Healing Sanctuary Building - O.U.R ECOVILLAGE
An amazing one-of-a-kind 'natural building' located on the 25 acre permaculture farm setting of OUR Ecovillage. The Healing Sanctuary is a beautiful earthen/strawbale building, with 2 bdrms each having a queen bed, one full bathroom, a tea kitchen with a sink and mini-fridge, and the open sunlight filled sanctuary room. This handsculputed space is a 'whole experience' set within a sustainable living learning space with lots to take in....or simply kick back and take in the farm buffet meals. Guests will enjoy private use of the full Sanctuary, but will always be welcomed and orientated on-site by a resident member of the education center, and join in with many aspects of OUR Ecovillage community life, including group meals. If they wish, there is an opportunity to join in with the daily permaculture farming activities of the Village, or learning events at our Education Centre, may be available on prior arrangement. We would love for you to join us for community meals: Breakfast is $10, Lunch is $12 and Dinner is $16 or our three meal deal is $36. The shared sanctuary livingroom space can be converted to a bedroom with cots we have available if needed. Visitors are always welcome to take a self-guided tour (with provided map/information) of the 25-acre site in order to learn about the many natural buildings, acres of food production, and other innovative work done on the land. As with many things, the experience is what you make of it, and we are able to accommodate both those interested in a private getaway, and in a community experience. First and foremost, we are an education experience, and visitors should be prepared to interact with and learn about 'living lightly on the land' to at least some degree. Located just 45 minutes north of Victoria, and 30 minutes south of Duncan, Shawnigan Lake is a lovely lakeside community offering year-round entertainment. The area features the incredible and recently restored Kinsol Trestle (the world's tallest wooden trestle bridge), many wineries, high end dining, lake-based activities, hiking, and more. The entire Cowichan Region, of which we are a part, is a breadbasket for the Island and features many amazing wineries and farm-to-table restaurants. Very nearby are opportunities to enjoy farm-produced breads, meats, cheeses, and more. Shawnigan Lake offers a small grocery store, coffee shop and cafe, restaurant, community centre, and other amenities, while nearby Mill Bay is directly located on Hwy 1 and has gas stations, a large grocery store, and chain restaurants. It is very close to the Mill Bay-Brentwood Bay Ferry link which takes passengers to the Saanich Peninsula. If guests wish to share their particular interests and travel wishes, we are happy to help suggest and organize local excursions to suit. There is limited public transportation in the region, but visitors will find it easiest to get around with their own transportation (car, bike, etc). For those who want to have a full immersion experience into Village life, please inquire about OUR Ecovillage Immersion Experience. And if you wish to get the feel for some of OUR courses while you are here you could even book an 'Ecovillage Explorer'.
