The Yurt at Frog Pond Farm
Our yurt (30' dia.) is rustic, beautiful, quiet, in deep woods with deck overlooking pond. Great for couples, small families (not childproof). Includes hot tub & Poetry Walk. Beds are futons. It's warm June-Aug. (no A/C, plenty fans), but way cooler than the city. It's cold Nov.-March (wood stove heat). Mini-fridge & microwave (no kitchen/plumbing). Bath-house is 2-min. walk (toilet, sink, shower). Two minutes to Saxapahaw. Read description for more info. SERIOUSLY NO PARTIES. And no dogs. This yurt offers an adventure in glamping. The large round canvas structure is sited in the woods, with its own big deck (with fire-pit) overlooking Frog Pond. Inside are electricity, bottled water, 2 beds, wood stove, recliners and plenty of places to sit & chill. The big table is right for dining or doing projects. We offer coffee + coffeemaker (you make) but no breakfast. There's also a mini-fridge, microwave, plates, cups and utensils, fireplace wood. There is wi-fi & plenty books, games & DVDs (player provided). The yurt is especially enjoyable in the spring and fall, and magically great in the rain. It can get cold in late fall/winter, esp. early morning. If you have a sleeping bag you love, bring it. It will be hot June-August. The space is not childproof, so best not to bring toddlers. Dress for camping! The yurt is exclusively yours, as is the hot tub. Frog Pond Farm is located deep in the woods in the central Piedmont of North Carolina. Two people live here (about 100 feet up the hill), along with 2 cats, 20 chickens, 2 geese and 2 dogs. You will have access to your own heated bath house (with sink, toilet and shower), about a 2-min. walk from the yurt. You may also visit the Woodland Banners Poetry Walk, a permanent art installation on the grounds, as well as a yurt art gallery called Bourbon, Dogs & Art. You are welcome to roam our 28 acres as you like. We have no nearby neighbors. We live and work here, so we are available all the time. You can reach us by phone, text or by knocking. Our style is to get out of your way, unless you are lonesome. Frog Pond Farm is located about two-and-a-half miles from Saxapahaw, a 200-year-old mill village on the Haw River. Saxapahaw is a thriving tourist destination, offering Saxapahaw General Store, The Eddy Pub, Cup 22 Coffeehouse, Haw River Ballroom, The Bridge Center for Healing Arts, Left Bank Butchery, Saxapahaw Museum, and Haw River Farmhouse Ales brewery. Look them up on the web for current events. Haw River Canoe & Kayak Co. can take you boating on the river, and you can hike the Haw River Trail (see that website). Fishing off Saxapahaw Island in the haw River. For supermarkets or liquor stores, you can drive to Graham (take Hwy 87 north) or to Carrboro/Chapel Hill (take Hwy 54 east); they are both 15 miles from Saxapahaw. We live in a rural setting. Saxapahaw offers no public transportation. The nearest train stop is Burlington, 15 miles north of us. Airports are in Greensboro & Raleigh-Durham, each 35 minutes away east and west. We have ample free parking at the farm. On arrival, you might be greeted by our two elderly dogs, who may want to make friends immediately (we supply dog treats in the yurt). While here, expect to enjoy the sights *and sounds* of free-roaming chickens, a pair of geese and assorted wild owls, hawks, coyotes, etc. You might want to bring flashlights & umbrellas, and bathrobes for the hot tub. Remember: a yurt is a tent, so think "camping." It might be chilly when you get up in the morning. We are in the woods and you might see a spider web or the occasional insect or mouse. It is rustic.
