The Old Doctors House

The apartment is at the lower end of the village making it ideal for people less mobile but still close enough to local tavernas, restaurants and bus stops. The apartment has two double bedrooms both with en-suite facilities, a fully equipped kitchen and sitting room. Bedrooms have air conditioning (heating for cooler months) as well as heated towel rails. The sitting room has a ceiling fan and electric heater. The rooms also have floor standing fans if you prefer not to use air conditioners. The apartment is recently renovated and equipped to a high standard, providing spacious, comfortable accommodation. The kitchen is fully equipped, including fridge/freezer, microwave, toaster, coffee maker and everything else required to cook a full meal if you wish. The main bedroom is large and bright with the lighting being provided by a light tunnel from the roof. If this presents a problem with waking you up early in the morning, we can cover this at night. This bedroom can easily accommodate a travel cot and we have one available upon request. The second bedroom has light from a small window and louvre doors. The building is traditionally built meaning it has thick walls and small windows in the bedrooms to allow the property to remain warm in winter and cool in summer. There is a very comfortable sitting room to relax in at the end of the day if you do not wish to use the roof terrace. There is also a full size desk and office chair in this room and free wi-fi making it an ideal work space for remote working. Beach/swimming towels and beach mats are provided and we also have 2 folding sunbeds and a beach umbrella available for your use. Guests have full access to the roof terrace where their privacy will be respected. Here, you can enjoy your meals or relax on the sunbeds or just sit and admire the views of the Mirabello Bay or up to the mountains and olive groves. There is a pergola for shade on the roof but it does still get extremely hot up there during the day. The garden swing does also have a canopy for shade but we don't generally keep this on due to the potential for high winds. We can easily put it on for you if required. Solar lights have recently been added to the pergola to give you additional lighting in the evening. We live on site in the apartment upstairs so will be available at most times. Our mobile numbers will be provided in the event of us being away from the property. Kritsa is a beautiful, traditional craft village with many lace, and gift shops, It also has clothes shops, 4 minimarkets, a butchers, hairdressers, 2 pharmacies and shops selling the famous Kritsa olive oil and herbs and spices. There are several tavernas, restaurants and bars, some of which are open all year round. The property is located in a very quiet lane at the lower end of the village adjacent to a local village farm. From the roof terrace, you can watch the goats, lambs and cats at play in the farmyard. There are views of the beautiful blue sea of Mirabello Bay with it's backdrop of majestic mountains and their everchanging colour depending on the light. The sunrises are truly amazing. In the other direction we have views of the olive groves and mountains Kritsa is a traditional working village and is believed to be the largest village in Crete. It is approximately 10km from Agios Nikolaos where there are numerous sand or pebble beaches. For those who prefer a swimming pool, there is a pool located at Blue River Pool & Beach Bar located at the end of Almyros Beach which is a 10 minute drive away. However, most small hotels with a pool are more than happy to allow the use of their pool on condition that you buy food and drinks at their pool bars. Kritsa has a regular bus service (air-conditioned coaches) to Agios Nikolaos from where you can get buses further afield, making it easy to get around the island. But, to get the full benefit of the surrounding countryside, historical sites, plateaus, beautiful villages and secluded beaches, it is highly recommended that you hire a car. Kritsa is a popular location with both cyclists and hikers and, for those who wish to get away from the beaches there are numerous local walks through the olive groves. For the more ambitious, the Kritsa Gorge is spectacular and the view of Agios Nikolaos from the Lato Archaeological Site, a few kilometres away, is amazing. The famous Church of Panagia Kera which contains the finest-preserved Byzantine-era frescoes in Crete is a 20 minute walk away. IMPORTANT COVID 19 INFORMATION Due to the current circumstances regarding COVID19, Airbnb have introduced a new Enhanced Cleaning Initiative (ECI) which host's can sign up to. We have signed up to this initiative but, due to the additional cleaning and disinfecting required to meet this new ECI, we will be imposing a 48 hour time frame between departing guests and new guest arrivals to ensure the property is spotlessly clean and thoroughly disinfected. So as not to miss anything, we use detailed check lists for each room in the apartment to ensure we meet the above protocols and comply with Airbnb and local laws. All surfaces are thoroughly cleaned and sanitised before guests arrive and additional cleaning products are also provided for your use if required during your stay. Check in is 4:00pm and check out is 11:00am however, if guests arrive early or wish to leave late, we do have a locked room where we will be happy to look after your luggage if you wish to go and explore.
