Spacious Somerset Vicarage Barn
Vicarage Barn is a beautiful and peaceful detached cottage in the grounds of the house where we live, with a very popular dining pub in walking distance. In a 'vintage meets modern' style it mixes antique furniture and original rustic features with brand new beds and luxury soft furnishings; strong wi-fi and a smart TV plus use of our Type1 electric car charger by arrangement. The Barn was converted in 2019. Inside is a spacious & very well-equipped kitchen-diner with a flagstone floor, scatter rugs (NB. trip hazards), original wooden beams and stone mullions, leading to a cosy good-sized sitting room with a cast iron gas ‘wood burner’. Upstairs the two bedrooms both have king-sized beds, one which we can unzip and make into two 2’6” single beds perfect for children. The bed linen and towels are all cotton. One bedroom has an ensuite shower room and there is a separate bathroom with a large roll-top bath. We provide hand and body wash, and shampoo. The Barn also has its own private walled garden with a lawn & patio from where you can see the 16th Century village church. At the front there is a small lawned garden with a beautiful weeping cherry tree. Guests can walk to the very popular gastro pub on the village green. You won't even need to cook! If you would like us to book you a table there or recommend another local restaurant then don't hesitate to ask. We will provide everything you need for your first breakfast including cereals, fresh bread, milk, butter, juice from our own apples, free-range eggs, tea bags and biodegradable coffee pods for the Nespresso machine. We have one friendly, medium-sized dog who loves people and is often outside in the shared driveway. The entire Vicarage Barn is for use by our guests. It is situated within the grounds of our main house where we live and we share the vehicle entrance and driveway. The Barn has it's own small, private walled garden with patio, table, chairs, parasol, bbq and a wooden bench. Our guests are also welcome to use the set of kids’ swings at the side of the driveway. We live in the main house with our two daughters. We are normally able to welcome guests personally (at a social distance) but occasionally, if we really can’t be there, we’ll give guests a code for the key safe. We are very happy to tell you about our beautiful area of South Somerset and the local walks and places to visit. After settling you in the property, we will leave you alone to enjoy your stay but if you have any queries we're never far away. Vicarage Barn is in a beautiful rural setting on the edge of a picturesque Somerset village bordering on green fields and near a golf course. It is detached from our main house and both are set in a large private garden with a wide gravel driveway. We are equidistant from both the South Coast and Bristol Channel. Bristol Airport is just an hour away and there are numerous places to visit including: Glastonbury Tor, Sherborne Abbey and Castles, Wells Cathedral, Hauser and Wirth, Cheddar Gorge, The Newt in Somerset, Clarks Village, Fleet Air Arm Museum, Haynes Motor Museum. There are a number of National Trust properties in our area too, including the sublime Montecute House. Nearby, Somerton boasts the brand new 28 Market Bar restaurant, Market Bakery and The White Hart dining pub. Or find the trendy Bridge cafe and Kitchen At The Wharf on the River Parrett at Langport. Keep going west to The Firehouse and Living Pretty at Curry Rival. Slightly further away at Bruton there’s The Newt Hotel Restaurant, At The Chapel, Rothman’s Bar & Grill and Osip. From our doorstep there are wonderful country walks over Knole Hill or to the edge of The Somerset Levels plus popular cycling routes on to The Levels and into Dorset. We are conveniently located for the A303, M5, Clark's Village, Yeovilton Air Base, Leonardo Helicopters and also Millfield School, Hazlegrove Prep, Kings School Bruton, Bruton Girls and the Sherborne Schools. The pretty market town of Somerton is just 3 miles away, also Langport, Glastonbury, Castle Cary, Ilminster, Bruton and Sherborne are all within 30-40 minutes drive. Please see our Guidebook for ideas. A303 5 miles/8 mins, M5 16 miles/35 mins, Bristol Airport 35 miles/75 mins, Castle Cary station 14 miles/23 mins, Yeovilton 6 miles/12 mins, Millfield School 9 miles/22 mins, Glastonbury Tor 12 miles/25 mins, Sherborne 14 miles/25 mins, Bruton 17 miles/26 mins, Wells Cathedral 17 miles/40 mins, Taunton 17 miles/40 mins, Lyme Regis 27 miles/60 mins, Bath 35 miles/70 mins. Apologies, we do not accept dogs. This property is not suitable for people with mobility issues. There are four stone steps (no hand-rail) between the parking area and the house entrance. The main living area has an uneven rustic stone floor and the scatter rugs and step up to the living room pose unfortunate trip hazards. There is no loo on the ground floor and both the bedrooms and bathrooms are upstairs.
