Green Hill House

This cozy guest house on the north-eastern slope of Szent György Hill, in the heart of the Badacsony Wine Region, has fabulous views of the surrounding mountains. It’s idyllic location makes it a quiet place to relax, but it’s still only a 12-minute drive from the shores of Lake Balaton. IMPORTANT: You may rent the house from Monday to Friday (4 nights), Friday to Monday (3 nights), or Friday to Friday (7 nights). The House Everything here feels like coming home. Upon entering, one has the feeling they’ve known the place for a long time. Put down your bags, take a seat on the spacious terrace off the living room, and enjoy a fine wine at sunset. You’ve arrived. The cottage can comfortably accommodate up to six people. Its upper level consists of a large terrace, a living room, a kitchen and dining area, and a bedroom/salon with an ensuite bathroom, complete with shower. From here you can access the small gallery with a ladder, where you’ll find two mattresses suitable for younger guests. The other bedroom has its own separate entrance and is on the ground floor. The house is equipped with essential accessories and household appliances, and you will find everything you need for a relaxation: refrigerator, coffee maker, kettle, stove, dishes, pans, cutlery, and hair dryer are all supplied. Wifi is available. If you’re interested in being a guest, or in possible activities, feel free to inquire in Hungarian and English. We are happy to organize wine tastings, hikes, bike tours of the region, and other programmes, and to provide information to make your retreat an unforgettable experience. There is no TV in the house, but we’re sure you won’t miss it. I always try to be fully available. I live nearby, if possible, I am happy to be available to guests in person, and by phone and e-mail at any time. The rich region provides plenty to see and do: the Tapolca Cave Lake, the Szigliget Castle, ruins of the Csobánc fortress, the famous Badacsony hill and the Liliomkert farmer’s market, among others. The center of Tapolca, the nearest city, is five minutes away, and the nearest beach is a 12-minute drive from the house. If you enjoy hiking, explore the nearby trails of St. György Hill. A longer walk will take you to the hill’s unique Basalt organ pipes, or to the peaks of other nearby volcanic hills and the astonishing geological formations of the Kali Basin. The National Blue Trail (Kéktúra), the first long-distance walking trail in Europe, crosses all of Hungary and can be reached atop St. György hill. The region boasts many excellent restaurants and wineries, such as the nearby Szászi Estate and its restaurant, Viridarium, where dishes are paired with local wine. Also try Taberna Infinito, with its stunning sunset views overlooking the surrounding hills and valleys. Don’t forget to book a table at PAP Wines, which offers vegetarian, Mediterranean and Middle Eastern-inspired tapas alongside its house wines.
