Highbury Fields just a 10-minute walk away and is a beautiful broad green space at nearly 12 hectares or 29 acres. It is bordered by handsome residences and buzzing with action throughout the year, thanks to its ample open spaces and access to Highbury’s local outdoor tennis courts and other recreational spaces. The park is chock full of numerous and varied walking trails and outdoor nooks – perfect for a morning stroll with yourself, the kids, or anyone else you fancy! For a truly unique London experience, venture just a short 5-minute walk away to Regent’s canal – an 8.6 mile (13.8km) stretch of water complete with walkers, cyclists and independently-owned restaurants and cafes. If you’re lucky (and thirsty), a truly spectacular stretch of water-side wine bars and pop-up watering holes will be clamouring for your patronage along the way! If the more classic London hustle-and-bustle is more your style, fear not: Angel/Islington’s main drag – Upper Street – is a 2-minute hop-and-a-skip away, lined with some of London’s most interesting independently-owned restaurants and local shops and businesses. Explore a new space or cuisine for each meal, or fall in love with a few establishments and keep coming back for more! Recommendations include La Faraola Café , a vibrant, rustic corner bistro specialising in Spanish tapas with a Mediterranean twist – and a wine list that lives up to the challenge! If you’d like to dine closer to home, we recommend – without any qualifications – Farang, a painstakingly-authentic family-owned Thai restaurant that has grown miraculously from a pop-up street food presence throughout London in 2016 to a beloved, permanent brick-and-mortar space in the heart of Highbury. Some of the freshest ingredients we have come across in London – bring your appetite! When (if?) you’ve had your fill of the local fare and colour, Oxford Circus – right in the centre of one of the most treasured gems of London’s West End – is a mere 8-minute ride away on the London Tube, picking up from Highbury & Islington Station. This is your one-stop destination for London’s unbeatable cultural and historical offerings – including its revered theatre scene – as well as enough retail and shopping destinations to make your head spin. A must-visit for any London visitor – both for the newly-initiated and the seasoned veteran! Upon your return to our flat, kick your shoes off in our cosy living space and brew an evening cup of tea. Let our flat be your entrée to all that London has to offer! My favourite local restaurants: Coffee/Breakfast: Maison Bleue (7 mins), Café Vertige (5 mins); Brunch: Megan’s (Newly opened, great bottomless) and Brother Marcus (buzzy); Gastro Pubs: Smokehouse, Albion, Pig & Butcher, Compton Arms; Dinner: Trullo (5 mins, truly authentic neighbourhood Italian, people travel all through London to try); Westerns Laundry (think romantic candle-lit “fine dining”); 12:51 by Michelin-starred Chef James Cochran; Le Mercury (sophisticated French at decent prices); La Farola (great for tapas). Coal’s Drop Yard (and all of the great shops and restaurants) in King’s Cross is only 1 stop away on the tube. Nearest supermarkets: Tesco Metro is your nearest supermarket, just 2 mins down Essex Road, along with an award-winning fishmonger (Steve Hatt) butcher (James Elliot) and Planet Organic, an organic and ethically minded supermarket. There are also numerous 24/7 off-market stores nearby. The flat is also a mere 10 minute walk from Highbury & Islington (Victoria line, Overground) or Angel (Northern line) stations. Central London and all the traditional tourist sites are easily accessible, many of them just 20 minutes from the front door. There are also plenty of buses that go down Essex Road or Upper Street.
