The very quietly located flat consists a small hallway, a spacious bathroom, a cosy eat-in kitchen with buffet and a sofa bed as well as a separate living room with desk, balcony access and 2 single beds. From the balcony, which faces southwest, you have a great view and can see the sunsets. It is located on the 1st floor and has a size of approx. 50 sqm2. It has been lovingly and individually furnished in vintage style and has a total of 3 beds. The house was built in 1928 and the original structure has been preserved as far as possible. After I took over the house in November 2020, the flats were successively renovated. This was done as far as possible with a view to preserving the old substance as well as sustainability and environmental aspects. For example, we heat with pellets and wood, and a supporting photovoltaic system is to be installed soon. It is very quiet (residents-only street with drive-through restriction) and the forest starts behind the house. The vintage furniture has been carefully restored and "upcycled" in our own small studio. The garden is large with old trees, a small garden pond, barbecue area, various seating areas and a small vegetable garden. The forest starts behind the house. Deer, rabbits and foxes, as well as the rare black stork can be seen quite regularly. The house itself is situated in the village. In 5 minutes you reach the centre of the village with the church, a great butcher and a small grocery shop (which bakes its own bread). Another 5 minutes in the direction of the main road (Hermeskeiler Strasse) you will find a beverage market, a flower shop, a bank and another bakery... There is a washing machine in the basement that can be used for a small charge. If you have any questions come back to us! We live on the ground floor, but are also on the road a lot. If we are not on site, you can reach me via SMS, mail, phone, ... The Wadrill Valley in the heart of the Hochwald Nature Park with its merged villages is an idyll that is rarely found. The village of Wadrill itself is small but quite lively and easy to reach by car (A1 approx. 10 minutes away, A8 approx. 20 minutes away). If necessary and by prior arrangement, I am also happy to pick up my guests at the nearest train station (Merzig, Türkismühle, Trier). In the village there are various possibilities to get the things of everyday life within walking distance (baker, butcher, groceries, beverage shop, flower shop, hairdresser, pedicure, restaurant, pizzeria, ...). The village centre is a 2-minute walk away. In the competition "Unser Dorf soll schöner werden" (Our village should become more beautiful) in 1999, Wadrill took 1st place in the district of Merzig-Wadern, and this not without reason. The Hochwald forest begins directly behind the house. With a bit of luck you can see deers and rabbits at the edge of the forest, hear the fox calling and the young owls. This year we have four (!) black storks nesting in the forest. The first mention of Wadrill was in 981 as "Waderola" in a document of the Archbishop of Trier, Egbert. The name Wadrill dates back to pre-Celtic times and names our village stream. The name meant "rushing water". An ancient custom is still practised in Wadrill today. On the first Sunday of Lent (February), a wheel of fire, the "pea wheel", is rolled from the hill of the Perscher Kopf into the Wadrill. The present nave of the parish church "St. Martin" was built in 1888. The Romanesque tower is over 1000 years old and is a listed building. Wadrill is home to the "Hochwaldalm", the only one of its kind in the Saarland with a cosy little restaurant and an incomparable Schwenkbraten. The "Harteich-Hütte" of the Heimat- und Naturfreunde is a popular destination for hikers, horseback riders and those seeking relaxation. Grimburg Castle is just as beautiful as destination as the forests towards Gehweiler and Dagstuhl or the Spießbratenhalle in Schillingen with its barefoot path and large beer garden. Trier, the oldest city in Germany and the river Mosel with all its pretty wine villages are about 35 minutes away by car, the town of Wadern about 6 kilometres. Losheim with its lake and large range of leisure activities as well as the Bostalsee lake are within approx. 20 minutes by car. Kell am See is also within easy reach. Depending on the route you choose, you can drive between 35 and 45 km to the famous and beautiful Saarschleife through a wonderful landscape and also pass the factory outlet of Villeroy & Boch (Merzig). Luxembourg town (approx. 1 hour drive) is also worth a visit, as is the Müllerthal. Sankt Wendel is in the direction of Kaiserslautern, can be reached in just under an hour. Likewise, within about 1 hour's drive there are destinations such as IP Vogelsang, Vianden, the Nürburgring and much more to discover. The only skiing area in Rheinland-Pfalz, the Erbeskopf, is also only about 30 minutes away. Other castles, small towns, many forests and hiking tours invite you to discover them. Regarding the special situation with Corona: We are fully vaccinated. Nevertheless, we only accept guests who behave in accordance with the applicable travel regulations and, if necessary, have PCR tests or proof of vaccination with them.
