Explore Dartmoor National Park & try our local pub at the heart of lovely Lustleigh village. Then relax by the open fire at the end of the day or have a BBQ on the huge terrace. Spacious, cosy, bright & brimming with character: You've found the perfect home away from home for holidays and weekend breaks. Built in the 1890s and being a family home, the house is a lovely old and warm space with its own personality, character and quirks. It is the ideal place to wind down and relax. Set in undulating countryside and luscious grounds in the eastern corner of Dartmoor National Park near the coastline. Five comfortable bedrooms accommodate families, groups or couples. The view from every room is stunning. A huge terrace offers space for dining and lounging and the sprawling garden with its adjoining woods are perfect for exploring. The view is beautiful, overlooking a valley. Visitors often find their sleep is unusually deep and refreshing, thanks to the calm at night and the complete absence of intrusive light. Our home has a big kitchen with direct access to the huge terrace. The cosy sitting room has sofas, big armchairs and an open fireplace. The drawing room also has an open fireplace, as well as sofas, armchairs and a French window door opening out onto the terrace. There is even a billiards table in the hall. Wildlife can be spotted from any of the bedrooms, hardly a day goes by without a few deer grazing on the rounds in the morning and a couple of buzzards circling the valley. Our house is set in the foothills of Dartmoor National Park, half a mile from Lustleigh village center with its popular local Pub, The Cleave, the Primrose Cottage Tea Rooms and a local shop. The house is easily accessible by car, 30 minutes from Exeter and 15 minutes from the A38. Should we not be able to greet you upon arrival, we will provide handover of the keys and come by at an arranged time to make sure you are comfortable and know your way around the place. Wild and wonderful Dartmoor, woodland walks from the doorstep and the gorgeous beaches of South Devon easily reached and among the most beautiful in Britain. Dartmoor National Park is right on our doorstep, with its rolling hills, wild ponies, sheep and cattle. Nearby Widecombe-in-the-Moor is a great starting point for hikes across the moor or to go horse-riding. Many of the best beaches of Devon are within each reach. Torquay, Teignmouth, Blackpool Sands in Dartmouth or lovely little Ness beach in Shaldon. There are countless charming historic towns and villages to be discovered, including our own beautiful village, Lustleigh, with its picture perfect 15th century church, friendly local pub and tea rooms, thatched cottages and orchard with a granite throne for the May Queen. Exeter has not just a beautiful cathedral, but many delicious eateries, the river Exe to go canoeing or cycling along, and great shops. Totnes offers a lovely flea market every Friday and a range of beautifully quirky shops. The picturesque harbor town Dartmouth with its medieval lanes and alleyways offers many arts, antiques and craft shops. All these places are within easy reach and make the house the ideal location for a perfect few days in the country. Exeter and Newton Abbott are 30mins and 20mins drive away respectively. Bristol and Bristol International Airport are 1.5 hours drive away. The village centre with a pub and a small grocery store is 15 mins walk (downhill) away. Shops in nearby Bovey Tracey (10 mins drive) include a delicatessen, chemist, butcher, bakery and several banks. Please note: being set in proper Devon countryside, there are some rather narrow, stonewalled lanes in the area, including the lane leading to our house. A car is recommended. Housekeeping/cleaning can be arranged upon request at extra cost. Please note that a charge for extra persons per night is added. We will try to accommodate late check-out where possible. We also offer full daytime-extensions till 9pm should we have availability, the charge for the latter is £70.
