COVILHÃ HOSTEL
THE HOUSE The house, built in the 1930s, is located in the city center of Covilhã, in Serra da Estrela. It has 2 bathrooms, a kitchen and a living-room. Although it has six bedrooms, only the blue and the cream are available to short stays (from 1 day to 1 month). The other bedrooms are rented to university students, who attend UBI- Beira Interior University. The blue bedroom has two bunks and a single bed, but there is another bed available, if necessary. It also has a desk, a sofa and a wardrobe. Both bathrooms have a bath. The kitchen is large and has a stove, a fridge, a freezer, a dishwasher, a washing machine and a microwave. The reception desk is located in Café R&F, on the groundfloor, where you can also have breakfast or a snack. Mr António Ramos, the owner of this coffee house, is the receptionist and he will provide you all the touristic and gastronomic information you need to spend a wonderful time. Take full advantage of your stay: the privileged location of the house allows you to enjoy “Serra da Estrela”, with 2000 metres height and “Cova da Beira”, a very beautiful valley. In this area, you can also visit nice traditional villages of schist and granite, go trekking or cycling and in winter time go skiing, too. The ski tracks are 12 km from the house. The university is only 100 metres away and within 500 metres you can find traditional shops, restaurants, bars and museums. The regional cuisine is delicious and very varied: you can taste the exquisite cheese “queijo da serra”, while you have a sip of a fine wine, or try traditional dishes like panela do forno, xerovias, pastel de molho, enchidos and cabrito (lamb). In the historic centre, 300 metres away from the house, the night is cheered by the university students, who usually get together in the streets or have a drink in the local bars. Lisbon, the capital of the country, is 300 km away and Oporto, the second city of Portugal, is 250 km away. Both cities are served by good highways, buses and trains. You can get to Lisbon in 3 hours and to Oporto in 2 and a half.
