We live in a small, quiet neighborhood of mature adults, on a cul-de-sac set deep in the woods of Southern Maryland. The town of La Plata is vibrant, clean, and full of charming restaurants, family-owned businesses, and seasonal festivals. Charles County is the jewel of Southern Maryland, with several farms and a thriving amish community who sell their produce and products at markets in the summers. Our property backs up to 250 square miles of forest. Wildlife sightings (deer, turkey, bald eagles, owls, blue Herron) are abundant. Starbucks, Panera Bread, Target, Walmart, CVS, Lowes, Safeway and Giant are all within two miles. La Plata and surrounding areas have abundant outdoor activities, such as fishing, hiking, etc. The Indian Head Rail Trail is exactly one mile from our front door, and boasts 15 miles of beautifully manicured paved trail for walking, running, biking, and being in nature. Turkey Hill Park is a large park less than a mile away, with a frisbee golf course, playgrounds, and sports fields. There is also a golf driving range with outdoor miniature golf less than a mile away. Downtown La Plata boasts several excellent restaurants and shops. St. Charles Towne Plaza mall is just a ten minute drive north in Waldorf. If you want serious shopping, head north on 210 to National Harbor and the Tanger Outlet mall. There are dozens of beautiful restaurants, loads of shopping, and lots of fun. You can ride the giant Ferris wheel and get a great view of downtown DC. You can tour the most recently retired Air Force One. If you want more excitement, the MGM grand casino and resort is a great place to check out, right next door to National Harbor. MGM has loads of entertainment, lots of shows, great food, and free parking! If you want to visit DC and the sights downtown, the best and easiest way to do this is to drive and park at the Branch Avenue metro station (green line) and take the train into the city. Parking is $5.20 for the entire day at Branch Avenue; free on weekends and holidays (you won’t find anything cheaper anywhere else). The DC metro is very clean, safe, easy to use, and reliable. You can purchase passes at the metro station, and you can easily refill them using cash or credit card. Using the metro opens up the entire city to you, from the high end shops and five star restaurants of Georgetown, to the monuments and bountiful museums on the National Mall, to the memorials and national cemetery at Arlington, and everything in between.
