We welcome you to experience a journey to the Hawkesbury River’s ultimate getaway: Amaroo Cottage, Boatshed and water front Studio all set in beautiful gardens surrounded by natural bushland. Right on the water’s edge, just an hour from Sydney, it is ready explore. This haven is accessible only by boat which is easily arranged. Beautiful accommodation looking out over breath taking views of the Hawkesbury river. Perfect for romantic getaways, , baby-moons or family retreats, originally built in the 1920s, this cottage haven has been lovingly restored and is the perfect holiday retreat for up to three couples or a family with children. Enjoy your stay in the intimate boathouse or studio or enjoy the rooms of the cottage house. All the original buildings still exist at Amaroo and have been faithfully restored by the present owners. French doors from the main cottage lounge and master bedroom open onto a large verandah that captures the morning light all year round and endless river views. The newly renovated kitchen designed by Karen Sole blends perfectly with the slow combustion stove that is recessed in the original sand stone kitchen wall. The master bedroom, with a queen size Posturepedic bed, has French doors that open onto the front deck. The second bedroom has 2 single beds supplied by Harrods of London. The third bedroom, located in the Studio next to the Boathouse, has a double bed and views over its own deck directly onto the river. Please note, the only toilet facilities are in the main house, therefore this may not be suitable for some people during the winter months. The bathroom, although private, has views over the garden and the second "loo with a view" contains a washing machine and dryer. The secluded tranquil gardens and boatshed right on the water's edge offer complete relaxation and a stunning place to celebrate by the river. The outdoor gardens tables, studio deck and private boatshed are perfect for afternoon drinks before retreating to the cottage. The gardens have been designed by Michael Bligh and the contractor Michael Bates (now himself a well known designer). The pergola, festooned with giant honeysuckle has a gas barbecue. We have had elopements, family celebrations, intimate weddings and photoshoots here. A gas barbeque is ideally located on the lawn by the waters edge. The outdoor garden tables , studio, studio deck, private boatshed with own deck are the ideal place for daytime snacks and evening drinks . Amaroo offers complete relaxation by the river whilst listening to your favourite music from the stereo. We give instructions how to moor your boat and if you have hired a tinny how to moor it. If you take a water taxi, the taxi driver can leave a tinny for you to explore the Hawkesbury River. Take a picnic and go to a sandy beach! Mary regularly lives in the cottage mid week if it is not rented out, so everything is kept in perfect order for your visit. Please note that we do not accept parties under any circumstances. We do accept dogs, after discussion of the suitability (1 dog only). We do accept children provided parents are aware of water safety issues. Head over to Peats Bite a fabulous place to dine on the weekends (check in winter) with a pick up and drop off service available to Amaroo Guests. For those who wish to explore further afield, we suggest you arrange hire of a tinny. We give instructions how to moor your boat, if you have hired a tinny, how to moor it or if you take a water taxi, the taxi driver can leave a tinny for you to explore the Hawkesbury River. HOW TO GET THERE Brooklyn & Deerubbun Boat Ramp at Mooney Mooney is just 45km from the Sydney Harbour Bridge so we generally suggest travelling time is less than an hour from Sydney to reach this very unique weekend getaway. There is a very large car park. There is a train stop at Hawkesbury River. Some of our interstate and international guests have arrived and had their provisions supplied by Coles on Line sent to the water taxi pick up point by arrangement with Neal the taxi driver, or to Brooklyn Central (Tinny hire) . The obliging staff can pick you up at the station if they are not busy. Others have provisioned from Brooklyn. Arrive at Amaroo by mail boat (weekdays only), water taxi, own boat, or a hired tinny. Mary can advise on catering & any restaurant excursions that you may want to plan. Please contact us on the above telephone number to discuss any special transport issues. (eg how suitable is a "Rubber Duck" as a mode of transport). As we will usually leave the place open for your arrival, it is important that you let us know if you are going to be greatly delayed. *Cleaning fee included in price* What to bring: Food & Beverage Toiletries Favourite CD's & Videos Fishing rods, hooks, bait, sinkers ... for those keen to fish Generally check in times are anytime after 4.00 PM on Fridays, check out by 1.00PM the day you leave.
