Little Buttermilk Cottage

Our renovated, quaint, studio cottage is a 10 minute walk to the Redwoods, 5 minutes to shops and a short drive to the beach. Little Buttermilk is nestled in a private garden setting in the quiet neighborhood of Sunny Brae. We do have other properties so if our cottage is booked during your ideal stay please feel free to inquire! We invite you to stay in our beautiful, recently remodeled rustic eco chic cottage in Sunny Brae, Arcata. The cottage is bright and cheery with bamboo floors, ceramic countertops and locally made organic cotton/hemp curtains on all windows. Repurposed furniture is all handmade in the cottage! The space is set up like a studio, basically one small room that shares the kitchen, dining space, and a very comfortable and new sleeper sofa. Little Buttermilk is ideal for two people but does sleep four. The Queen bed is a private bedroom nook, fits a tall and raised queen size bed with storage cabinets above and below. Please note there is a stool under the bed, but would be challenging to access for anyone who may have trouble getting in and out. There is a full bathroom with beautifully tiled shower, a closet for hanging your clothes as well as a separate dressing room. The Cottage hosts a wee but plentiful kitchen, perfect for preparing a simple but luxurious meal to enjoy on the private garden patio. Little Buttermilk Cottage offers a relaxing environment for a small family vacation, a romantic getaway or time away exploring the beauty of the Humboldt Coast! Little Buttermilk Cottage has its own private gated entrance where a short solar lit path takes you back to your own private oasis. There is plenty of free parking on the street. There is a coded lockbox so you may arrive anytime after check in and have access. Our family lives in the house next door. We understand your need for privacy on your stay away from home but are also available for answering questions as they arise. We are more than happy to offer our direction and assistance. We ask that guests please feel free to text or call as needed. Sunny Brae, our neighborhood in Arcata, is a fantastic place. We are a five-minute walk to two delicious restaurants, a coffee shop, a grocery store with organic products, a hardware store, dry cleaners and laundry mat, hair salon and florist. We are a 20-minute walk to downtown Arcata and to Redwood Park. Of course, biking or driving to these places only takes a few minutes! Humboldt State University is just up the hill from here as well - only a few minutes away. The trailhead to the hiking and biking trails of the Sunny Brae Redwood Forest is a 5-minute walk from our front gate. Into bird-watching? The Arcata Marsh bird-watching area is a 5-minute drive from the house. The Pacific Ocean is less than a 10-minute drive from the house and there are literally dozens of public access points from which to enjoy the beach. Little Buttermilk Cottage is tucked away from the street in the back corner of our 1/2 acre yard. Its neighbor is the Sunny Brae Middle School, so it's very quiet at night and on weekends, but you may hear some children over the privacy fence during the day :). There is a bus station at the end of our street for the local bus system - the Arcata and Mad River Transit System schedules can be found online. We can also supply you with information about local taxi service and/or car rental if needed. Biking is encouraged around Arcata and very popular. The Arcata/Eureka Airport (ACV) is about a 20 minute drive north. We have one very friendly labrador named Sid, who may bark and wag to welcome you, but is completely quiet and well behaved right after. PLEASE KEEP THE GATE CLOSED so Sid stays safe inside. We also have five cats who may try to come by for a visit, Leo is a loving Manx, Theo a white and orange lounge cat, Poncho is the fat grey beast, Belle is the little manx and JuJu is our scruffy little rescue kitty. Also don't mind the chickens if they escape! Bikes and BBQ may be available upon prior request.
