Georgian Country House
Pretty country house with heated swimming pool. Big Georgian house on a country lane in the middle of a pretty village with fabulous pub. Gloriously heated swimming pool, open from April, with entertaining patio complimented by a bbq, sofas, dining table and sun loungers. The large sitting room has oak beams, and a big L shaped squishy sofa ideal for a family catch up and a bottle of wine. There is also a big TV with Sky, Sky Sport & Netflix. WiFi is available throughout the house. There is a secondary sitting room/ games room with a pool table, air hockey and table tennis, plus sky TV and comfy sofa. The kitchen is fully fitted with all the usual amenities: double oven and separate hob, dishwasher, coffee machine, slow cooker, microwave, kettle, toaster, cutlery, plates, pans and pots, herbs and spices etc. Plus kitchen table. The laundry has a washingmachine and tumble dryer, and is available for bookings of 3 days or more. The dining room is a large elegant room with a long dining table which seats 14. There are 7 bedrooms. The master bedroom has an en-suite and king size bed. Bedroom 2 has an en-suite, double bed, and bunk bed. Bedroom 3 has a double bed and a single. There are 3 more double rooms and 1 bunk room. Aside from the en-suites, there are a further 3 family bathrooms, a separate shower room and a downstairs loo. The rear garden has a large lawn with fruit trees and a venerable willow to one side. The front of the house has lawned areas with specimen trees and views to the fields. I will try to meet you and show you around the property, otherwise the keys are via lock box. Glorious part of the world. Golden beaches, country walks, pretty towns, sight seeing, country estates, hill forts, shopping and children’s activities all within reach. Plus fantastic eating spots for foodies. Some things to see and do in the area: Haynes International Car Museum is just round the corner in Sparkford, aside from the sensational museum showcasing some of the worlds most glamorous and rare cars, there is also a cafe and best of all, they have a racetrack for karting, which teens and adults love! Also fantastic is Weymouth Beach, which is a gorgeous golden sand shallow bay with pedalos, donkey rides and Punch and Judy - there is also mini golf, aquarium, fun fair, the list goes on. Abbotsbury Swannery and Sub Tropical gardens are on the same stretch of coast and always popular with all ages. The Swannery is particularly great for children, aside from feeding the Swans there are various seasonal is attractions such as a hay maze, mini tractor driving for tots and there are usually some birds of prey on display etc. West Bay is a fishing village with tidal marina and a pebble beach, lots of ice cream shops, fish and chip kiosks and odd antique shops. Burton Beach is just round the corner and is also mainly pebble however it has the benefit of ‘The Hive ‘ Cafe which does fabulous fresh sea food. Wookey Hole is a cave system which is interesting and they also have attractions there which are a great for kids. Cheddar Gorge and caves are also definitely worth a visit Longleat is an absolute must! Worth every penny, the safari is fantastic, the lions come right up to the cars (they are massive, much bigger than you think), and there is also a boat that you can feed the seals from, there is a zoo and an aquarium - and of course the actually stately home itself. Can’t recommend enough. For spa’s and amazing walks, go to ‘The Newt’ in Bruton. Cadbury Castle is a few minutes away and is an iron age fort with views to Glastonbury Tor. Montacute has a toy museum and the famous Montacute House (as in Kate Winslet version of Sense & Sensibility), the gardens there are beautiful and the Kings Arms does excellent food. Year round skiing is available at Warmwell in Dorset, they also do inflatable rings that you slide down, it’s so fun, you’ll cry with laughter! (Hidden by Airbnb) Warmwell snow sports Centre. Stonehenge is just off the A303. Shopping, boating and eating in Bath, plus of course the famous Roman Baths, Crescent, Circus and Abbey. Sherborne is a very pretty town with an Abbey, 2 Castles, famous private schools, boutiques shops and beauty spa’s. It also has an excellent gelato shop. Castle Cary is another pretty town with boutique shops and an excellent Somerset Wine Shop. Sailing is available at Sutton Bingham Resevoir. Horse riding at Peverells Stables. For beautiful houses and gardens: Stourhead (NT) - absolute must Lyres Cary Manor (NT) Barrington Court (NT) Montacute House (NT) Muchelney Abbey (EH) Tintinhull Gardens (NT) Forde Abbey Mapperton House The list really does go on. I leave a folder on the table to browse through. Drive straight down the A303 to get here from either direction. Nearest stations are: London Paddington to Castle Cary in about an hour and a half direct. Bristol to Castle Cary also an hour and half direct. Exeter to Castle Cary about 45 minutes direct. London Waterloo to Sherborne 2 hours 15 minutes direct. We have a detached annex on site at the property, so there is a shared drive.
