You will be staying in two restored 1928 Red Rattler Train Carriages. You are not sharing with other guests, you are booking the entire place, including both train carriages, front verandah, central deck, separate toilet, separate shower and the surrounding gardens and car park. No stairs to negotiate - wheel chair friendly with ramp. Carriage - C3261 Situated at one end of the first train carriage there is a kitchen which focuses on coffee, tea and other refreshments. There is a single sink and a bar fridge in this kitchen, plus a vast array of cups and mugs, tea pots, coffee pod machine, wine glasses, regular glasses and more. The centre of this carriage is the lounge, with large comfy lounges, TV & BlueRay Player and a large selection of DVDs, and two restored iron day beds. The carriage is light and airy, to take in the view of the gardens, with privacy blinds if needed. The carriage has air-conditioning, plus there are two ceiling fans in the lounge, and one in the coffee kitchen. The opposite end of this carriage is a bedroom with a lovely old Queen Size Iron Bed, beautiful linen, and curtains and blinds all around for privacy when needed. As you exit this carriage, there is a very large deck which links the two carriages, so when you exit any of the four double doors, you step directly onto the deck. This deck is covered by 3 large shade sails with camphor laurel tables with bench seats. So you have the option to dine inside the carriage or outside on the deck. Leading off the deck are toilet & vanity in one room, and shower & vanity in a seperate room. All areas - carriages, decks, toilet & shower are wheel chair accessible. Carriage - C3255 As you enter the second train carriage there is another kitchen at one end. This one is set up as the cooking hub. There is a double sink, and stainless bench top for food preparation. There is a large fridge, and a small free standing bench top oven with 2 hotplates. We also provide you with an electric frypan, electric Wok, blender, electric waffle maker, crock pot, toaster, kettle and more. Plus a large variety of crockery, cutlery, utensils etc. This carriage also has airconditioning. The centre of this carriage is still fitted with original train seats, which have been positioned in 3 groups where the seats face each other, with a camphor laurel table top between the seats. This is such a quaint place to dine, the children will love it... and so will the adults! There are a variety of board games, plus children toys and books in this carriage so you can enjoy some family fun and games. There is also an old piano, for those who know how to play. Can you see the family gathered around the piano, having a sing song... fantastic! The opposite end of this carriage has a beautiful old timber double bed. From this bedroom you can walk into the drivers carriage with wheel still in place and this area has a set of drawers and can be used as a dressing room. It took the owner a total of 4 years to restore these carriages, as they were completely derelict and considered un-restorable by most people! You can also enjoy sitting around the fire pit and toasting marshmallows. The train carriages are located in a very private position, on a quiet country road, with paddocks all around. You will look out and see horses and cows and lovely country in all directions. A caretaker lives on another part of the property and if all house rules are adhered to you will not see him :-) If you are travelling around by caravan, and want an experience in the Rattlers, there is plenty of space to safely park your van during your stay, and ample space go turn your caravan or motorhome around. We know you will LOVE it here. An experience of a lifetime and not to be missed! You will have the two train carriages, adjoining large deck and front verandah, plus bathroom and toilet completely to yourselves. This includes the surrounding gardens. You will not share any of these areas with other people. Do not pass through any fences or gates into grassed paddocks etc. Just stay in the area surrounding the train carriages. As your host, I do not live on site, however I will meet you on arrival. If I am not personally available, one of my assistants will be in attendance. There are a lot of quirky things we like to share with you when you check in, so you fully understand where everything is and how everything operates. We then leave you to enjoy your stay, but are always available by text or phone, and are not far away if needed in person. We are here to assist you at all times. If you are coming from the south or the Tweed region, drive through Murwillumbah and take Queensland Road to go out past the Showground. Keep driving and the road becomes Tomewin Road. You will pass the quaint little Dungay School and then it isn't far until you will see the two Red Rattlers on the left side. If driving from the Brisbane or Gold Coast, you can drive through Currumbin and can head for Tomewin Road, and cross over Mt Tomewin, from QLD into NSW. This route is shorter and more scenic but please note it is a windy road, and this road will lead you right past the Red Rattlers, which will be on your right as you reach Dungay. If you prefer the freeway drive, continue on over the boarder and take the Murwillumbah exit off the freeway. Then follow the alternate directions above. This region is frequented by nature lovers, and bush walkers as there is so much to see and do. So whether you are interested in the beach, the mountains, the river, the cane fields, climbing Mt. Warning or finding a secluded place to have a picnic, you won't be disappointed. There is so much to see and do in this region, and many great options within a 30 minute drive. If you are considering bringing a pet, please contact us before finalising your booking, to discuss suitability. Please note that all fences are open wire fences, so pets can easily run onto the road. You will be responsible for your pet at all times, and liable for any damage they may do to furniture and carpets etc. When booking for more than 6 people, or you need an extra bed, as guests are not couples, you can choose 7 guests. For seven guests, we set up an additional single fold out bed at the other end of the lounge area. Please note- the 2 bedrooms have a curtain across the door way for privacy. The two single beds and additional fold out bed in the lounge area are not private, as it is one large open carriage.
