The Little Cabin in the Woods near Divcibare
Some like it rustic! If that's you then you'll enjoy this wonderful 100 year old wooden cabin in the woods. Wake every morning to birdsong and fall asleep to crickets. Cook on a wood-fired stove and bathe in a wooden bathtub! It's an unforgettable glimpse of life in rural Serbia. The floor is brick but the mattress are memory foam with crisp white linen. And, yes there's wifi! Rent our bikes, bring your dog and enjoy dozens of wonderful walks in pristine nature - just 110km from Belgrade. The cabin and everything in it is almost entirely handmade, painted or woven, right down to the wooden bath. Other than the lovely mattresses, plumbing and fridge it's a step back in time. The cabin is open plan, other than the bathroom, and is simple and cosy. The kitchen kredenac (cupboard) is stocked with all the cooking equipment you'll need as well as plastic plates and glasses for picnics. Please use the summerhouse just below the cabin - a great spot for breakfast or watching the evening shadows lengthen. Winter time visitors must be hardy. Please note that the only heating is from a wood-fired smedrevac, which will need feeding through frosty nights. On the plus side, the tobogganing is fantastic! The whole house is yours to enjoy as if it were your own home. :) We are in the main house, about 100m away. We will be working in the orchard at the bottom of the hill over the summer months so are on hand to answer questions and help with any requests - we can even provide half board if you need. I love cooking and we mainly use our own organic fruit and veg, or produce from our farming neighbors. This part of Serbia is popular with affluent Belgraders due to the scenery, wildlife and pure air - it's known as an 'air spa'. There are literally dozens of beautiful walks around the property - use our picnic kit and make the most of them. There are quite a few weekend houses in the area but most of our neighbors are farmers and very friendly although no one speaks English! You will certainly hear distant sounds of chickens and cowbells - but nothing near enough to interfere with siesta time! The nearest little town, Divcibare, has a selection of shops and restaurants and is about 15 minutes drive, or 1.5 hours walk (highly recommended!) through the forest and across hilltops. We back onto miles of pine forests which smell wonderful in the summer. Public transport is not strongly recommended! Taxis from Belgrade airport are cheap and reliable (approx €50 one way), or there are buses - we can help and advise you. We can offer toboggans and mountain bikes. We are happy to offer day trips and organize transport if you want to visit local markets, potteries, monasteries, caves etc. We have our own spring! We are not on the mains and our water comes from our own mountain spring. The quality is excellent for drinking. We recycle and compost as far as possible and welcome guest's participation too. As I love cooking we offer breakfast and half board options using lots of produce from our organic orchard and wine cellar. Dairy products, including cheese, kajmak and kiselo mleko, are from our neighbours’ cows. Our offer changes with the seasons, please request sample menus if you are interested.
