Cozy room in Lisdoonvarna - near Cliffs of Moher
Enjoy a stay in your private garden-view room with your own bathroom! It is a modern house with pubs, restaurants and cafés in easy walking distance. From here, you can explore the Atlantic coast, the Aran Islands, the Burren, the Cliffs of Moher & much more! Immerse yourself in the culture of the Irish west coast. I offer a guest room with its own private bathroom just for your own use. My Wifi is very fast, always on and offers good connection due to an extender upstairs. The room has a single bed (with a cosy electric blanket!), and looks out onto the garden, so it is very quiet at night. The bathroom is equipped with a bathtub and showerhead, towels, soap, shower gels, shampoos, tooth paste and hairdryer. Due to the coronavirus, I'm taking extra steps to clean and sanitize frequently touched surfaces between reservations. You can relax in the garden, or watch your favourite series on your device with a nice cup of tea - or coffee :-) ... I'm greening my place... ... with biodegradable cleaning products .... with an under-the-counter filter for the water, so there is no need to buy single-use plastic bottles ... with a compost bin ... with separating rubbish and a recycling system in place. The house is located in a residential area just off the market square of Lisdoonvarna, a town on the edge of a unique area called the Burren and very close to the Cliffs of Moher. It is a 2 minute walk to the bus station (Bus Eireann, route 350 also servicing the Doolin and the ferry pier to Aran Islands, Cliff of Moher, Lahinch, Ballyvaughan - all lovely destinations). By car, it's only 10 min. to the sea and Doolin, 45 min. to Ennis, 50 min. to Shannon Airport, and max 1.5 hours to Galway. If you come by car/motorbike: The best way to travel in Ireland (unless you are staying in big cities only) is renting a car. This enables you to discover all the hidden, magical corners of the Emerald Isle. There is no car hire in Lisdoonvarna, best way to get a car is at the arrival airport. Off-street parking around the corner, (motor)bikes can be safely parked in the garden. Travel by public transport: Bus Eireann offers a more or less regular bus service from Galway, Ennis and Limerick, please see their website for timetable. It is possible to take the bus to Doolin (ferry to Aran Islands), the Cliffs of Moher, beachy Lahinch and the quaint market town of Ennistymon. I'm in easy walking distance to the amenities of Lisdoonvarna. Pubs which in summer provide evening entertainment from traditional to contemporary music, as well as restaurants and cafés are just a few hundred metres away from my house. One of the pubs, the Roadside Tavern, offers their own lager, red ale and stout which are brewed by the owner of the pub in the pub itself! Extremely tasty and definitely worth a tasting. Also, there are traditional music sessions on every night in summer. County Clare's biggest salmon smokehouse and two different visitor centres (Burren Smokehouse) is one of the main attractions in town. Local amenities comprise grocery stores and a butcher, a pharmacy, a church, a surgery, a riding stable, local walking guides etc. I can point you towards experiences that are after your own taste, be if food-related, walking, spiritual experiences, history etc. which are off the beaten track. Ireland's only spa in its beautiful Victorian building has been reopened to the public this summer and is also well worth a visit. The Doolin Caves are only a 5 to 10 min drive away and feature one of the biggest stalactites in the world (6 m long hanging from the cave ceiling!). Doolin also offers ferry rides to the Aran Islands during the summer months, and s Cliff cruise along the majestic Cliffs of Moher. Great ideas for a day trip! To see pictures from the west of Ireland and my area, the Burren and Ireland in general, search for "Karin Funke Redbubble". You can have a lovely stroll from my house in the evening to wind down and let the day's memories sink in. Wifi is available in the house if you bring your own device. The three resident cats are affectionate and docile. They are open to bribery (but nothing smoked or sugary, and no pork, please!). As they are cats, and as such notoriously curious, I would recommend keeping your door closed if you don't want them visiting. I am trying hard to keep them out of the guest space, but sometimes it is inevitable that there might be a few cat hairs. There is no cash machine (ATM) in Lisdoonvarna, the nearest is in Ennistymon, 15 min. by car south of Lisdoonvarna. So it would be advisable to stock up on money before you get here. You have access to the kitchen if you want to prepare your own breakfast, the living room with TV and DVD player, the garden and of course your own bathroom. I am living in the house with my three cats, so I will be available to help you with questions you might have, or with suggestions for walks, the absolute must-sees of the area etc. I have also gathered a lot of information about visitor attractions, maps etc. which are available in the guest room. As it might be a bit too much to take all in, I have written up a house manual with all the information needed. I am a geocacher and photographer, so I can give you tips for the best geocaches in the area, and the best locations for photography trips. I live in a quiet neighbourhood which is nonetheless very close to the square and all the shops, pubs, restaurants and the café. Actually you can see the square from my house. At the same time, going the other way, there is a lovely valley where you can walk, or reach the sea in just 10 minutes by car. The world-famous Cliffs of Moher are only a 20 min drive away, and the Burren (an amazing limestone area) are very close, too. You can also do day trips to the Aran Islands, as the ferries to the islands go from Doolin, a 15 min drive away. There are two beaches in the area - Fanore Beach to the north and Lahinch to the south. FESTIVALS: These are some of the festivals taking place in the area. Please search for them for more details, I'm not allowed to post website addresses. Burren in Bloom Festival - annual, May Burren Slow Food Festival - annual, May Burren Rocks! Doolin Folk Festival - annual, June Doolin Craft Beer Festival - annual, August Burren Food Fayre - annual, last weekend in October Traveling by public transport: Have a look at websites like Get there, Dublin coach (Dublin-Ennis) and Citylink (Dublin-Galway), and at the Bus Eireann website for getting from Galway / Ennis to Lisdoonvarna, if you don't travel by car. The bus stops in Lisdoonvarna at the square (Burkes Garage), and from there it is only 2 min on foot to my house. There are services going to Ennis/Limerick/Cork and the Galway direction. The Cliffs of Moher and Doolin can be reached by bus. To organise your public transport, visit the Getthere website. Bikes - pushbikes or motorbikes - can be parked safely in the garden which has a wall and a gate. Cars can park around the corner in a designated space off the road.
