There are plenty of pretty pubs around for you to enjoy a well-earned rest; this area is a walker’s paradise. Middleton in Teesdale, Holwick and Cotherstone are all nearby, offering extensive walks along The Pennine Way. A popular route is the stroll to High Birk Hatt - the rural home of Hannah Hauxwell, the lady of The Dales. The popular market town of Barnard Castle is only 6½ miles away. Here you will find a range of curio and antique shops, butchers, bakeries and a few high street stores. There is also a selection of pretty cafés and pubs, restaurants and a large supermarket.
