The Lily pond is a newly built property with a southwest facing garden which catches the sun most of the day. From your terrace, you may see the buzzards wheeling overhead, or at dusk and dawn, you may be lucky enough to witness the regular visits from the local deer who frequent the garden. Watch the ducks and moorhens landing and taking off from the pond, which in summer is covered in floweing lillies. The heron is a daily visitor and can be watched at very close quarters, and occasionally there is a visit from a kingfisher. As the seasons progress, the garden and orchard is full of snowdrops, primroses, bluebells, apples, pears or plums. The property is based in Devon’s market town of Totnes, which is located at the head of the estuary of the River Dart, within the South Devon area of outstanding natural beauty. Totnes has a long recorded history, dating back to 907, when its first castle was built. By the 12th century it was already an important market town, and its former wealth and importance may be seen from the number of merchants’ houses built in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. From The Lily Pond there is plenty to do, there are beautiful walks and cycle paths right on your doorstep and a nearby footpath leading down to a local thatched tavern (The Cott Inn) serving wonderful food and drink. Dartington, the area of Totnes that the property is based in, has a cider press and shops nearby to explore, as well as Dartington Hall gardens which is an award winning destination with woodland walks, riverside trails, cafés, restaurants and family-friendly activities. Nearby is the steam railway which can be boarded from Littlehempston, around 2 miles away. From here you can take the Round Robin, a famous and award winning tour which is the best way to explore South Devon and includes steam train, river boat and bus, visiting the quaint towns of Paignton, Dartmouth and Totnes. China blue is located in the heart of Totnes where you can visit the ceramic studio and make all your creative dreams come true. Then come and let your hair down and chill out in the cool and tempting café and outdoor patio. If wanting to venture slightly further out, the famous boating towns of Dartmouth and Salcombe are not too far away, as is Dartmoor National Park, being only a 20 minute drive away. Paignton Zoo is just a 20 minute drive away. Whatever you choose to do, The Lily Pond is a peaceful and cosy base to explore from. Free WiFi
