Named in the Domesday Book, with a history dating back to Roman times, this former lead mining and textile producing village is renowned for the World Hen Racing Championship’s held on the first Saturday in August. This part of Derbyshire has a rich heritage, with nearby Cromford being home to Arkwright Mills and Crich, playing host to Crich Tramway Village. Matlock Bath is just a short drive away and is the base for the cable car leading to the Heights of Abraham, a 60-acre hilltop country park.
