The area is renowned for fossil hunting, fishing and interesting rock pools hence the naming of the cottage. Staithes claims connection with Captain Cook who served his apprenticeship to a draper near the harbour. Nowadays Staithes is a must for anyone visiting the Yorkshire coast, with its quaint cobbled streets, good selection of locally sourced restaurants, quaint tea rooms and art galleries. It is also well known for hosting Staithes Art Festival each September when the village opens its doors to the public displaying local artists work. The enchanting CBeebies ’Old Jacks Boat’ is filmed in Staithes and is a must for all youngsters to visit and explore where all the adventures took place.
